A new revision of the program ePubizator (V1.0.0) is available here.

V1.0.0 02/03/2009 :

• Remove the "Quit" option from the File menu
• Move of the progress bar to the left.
• Alow disabling of change width or/and height or/and rotation for group manipulation.
• The default theme is "default" in place of "clam"
• Multilingual
• Move the "Delete" button in the preview box
• Alow to resize the licence window
• Change to "tablelist 4.11" compatible with Vista
• Change the multi-selection mode
• Memorize the last opened directory
• Add a confirmation box when saving a project in case of overwrite
• Licence box : new tab "Greetings"
• Disabled icons added in toolbar for Mac OS compatibility

Beta-2 28/01/2009 :

• Use local zip, unzip and unrar (included in the package)
• Support of cbr files
• Add extarnal program licence informations
• Show the name of the current project in the window top bar
• Show the amount of page when an epz is opened
• Logo and icon for the windows
• Add of the Option menu
• Log box
• Allow the individual or group change of width, height and rotation of the output
• Parameter box
• Output profiles
• Show the images in the original size in the preview box (with scrollbars)
• Does no more use ImageMagick (replaced by Pixane)
• Multiplateform : Windows, Mac OS X and Linux

Thank you very much for your reply.
Since the first revision of ePubizator, I asked to myself that there was a lack of interest for this tool considering the amount of reply.

Anyway, I will continue to improve it

I just received a message from a colleague who have a Mac OS X machine.
He tested the program and told to me that it is working.
I have some cosmetic modification to do to improve it under this platform.

The main goals of the next revision are :

- Multilingual
- Some fonctions to improve
- Correct the bugs that first users will found (it will be easy because no-one use it currently )

I've been looking for a tool to handle comics like this for a while, especially the ability to put multiple comics in one file with a seperate TOC entry for each one.

Yes, you can do that very easily with this tool
But with a unique TOC for the file where you can indicate the beginning of each story.

I am happy to see that some people are interested

If you try it, please don't hesitate to give to me your impressions, bug report and wishes.
Currently, I know that there are some difficulties to select multiple pages for changing their properties at once.
I am working on this problem, amongst other things...

Greyscale JPG is quite small for the image size. Similar reducing GIF to 4 bit grayscale (I would not recommend less) makes sense.

I tried to reduce the amount of colors or to change the image to grayscale, but I saw some problems :

• In gray scale mode, the eBook reader give a bad image. For example, the image converter of the PRS 505 give a very good result from color to grayscale. But it try also to convert grayscale as it was color and the result is not nice.
  (I don't know what is the equivalent of french word "tramage" in english ).
  I didn't find the good compromise and the good tool to add in my program for this purpose.

• On small image like 600x800, the profit is not so big for the jpg (if the original scan is not in true color 24 bits). That's why the program propose to resize the pages to decrease the size of the final file.

• Changing to grayscale takes more time of calculation than reducing the resolution.

• I told to myself that, in few month, the standard eBook reader will be in color so...

• Finally, I decided that it was more important to finish a working revision of the program than to find a better solution for color reduction.

Looking at the amount of interested persons for this program, perhaps that this choice was not so bad

Obviously the tool you used to convert to grayscale was inferior to the internal tool. This means you used the wrong tool. I use IrfanView, a free download, and first reduce the colors and then convert to gray scale. It works very well.

IrfanView is not cross-plateform and does not propose library for programing picture tools. At the beginning, I used ImageMagick, then GraphicsMagick, but I had problems to include them in an embeded application with the language that I am using (I want a program who does not need to install something else).

I wouldn't worry about that, your tool is both specialised and ahead of its time.

Ereaders are currently quite poor at displaying western style comics (and even manga can be difficult). Once readers with better displays appear, I expect to see much more interest in your program

BTW, is it written in Tcl/Tk? It's been a long time since I saw one of those.

I'd like to suggest something : preload the chapter names with the name of the files (when importing a folder), preferably with an user option to allow for some transformations...
