My experience has been that tea keeps a really long time in air-tight glass or metal. The only exception was some silver needle white. Even though it was still flavorful after a year or so, the flavor had definitely changed.
Even air-tight plastic is permeable enough to the flavors that tea starts to taste stale after a few months. I reuse for tea any metal tins with tight enough seals, but otherwise use glass Mason canning jars with metal lids. I was always too scared of pu erh teas to give them much of a chance, but considering how long it takes me to drink ones that aren't supposed to be aged, I guess those should probably be naturals for me. |

Might be a good choice. Another good choice is Keemun. IME, Keemuns improve over the first year or two, at least. They mellow out, while retaining their distinctive, somewhat earthy, character. They don't get bland, just smooth.
I'm in complete agreement with you about air-tight metal tins. I save all my old ones from Peet's to use with teas that come in less effective containers. They hold a 1/4 Lb of black or green tea, and about 1/8th of a pound of most Oolongs. They have a tight, round, metal top that you need to pry open with a screwdriver or back of a spoon. The problem with glass jars is that UV from the light can be an issue. Of course, if they're away in a dark cupboard, not so much. ![]() |

Thanks for the suggestion. I haven't had many Chinese black teas.

A glass of fresh squeezed orange juice. (Hardly surprising, I squeeze one every morning.)
Next up, I think it's going to have to be Peet's Sumatra Blend coffee. After a difficult night with our aging Cavalier King Charles Spaniel (see avatar), I'm going to need a serious bout of caffeine to get through the day. Unfortunately, I don't think we've got too many difficult nights left. But it isn't time yet. |

Thanks. After a bad night, he had a good day. Insisted on taking an actual walk today. Very short, but more than usual.

It's only been two weeks and her walks are already getting longer. There's no Talisker Storm in my cupboard, so I'm slumming it with some Glenmorangie 10-year. |
