Harry, fifteen years ago I read an early Harry Bosch story called The Concrete Blonde and was unimpressed. Since then the series has become very popular in the US, and I have thought about trying another one written a few years later.

I read a Harry Bosch that I got free, plus another short story in some bundle. I liked both, and they're on my list to grab, especially if free; else I'll wait till I finish my other series first.

Dead Easy by Philip DePoy is the fifth in his Flap Tucker series.

It's on US Kindle Countdown at $0.99 for about 5 1/2 more days. At this point, four of the five titles in this series (according to SYKM) have been on Countdown recently - possibly I just missed the remaining one somehow.

link: http://www.amazon.com/Dead-Easy-Phil...dp/B01ANS6OGC/

Spoiler:
Quote:
Flap Tucker thinks he’s got it all worked out.

A meditating private eye with curious cosmic talents, Flap prides himself on his ability to step back and put two and two together.

But when threatening notes start to turn up at his dear friend Dalliance Oglethorpe’s door – along with grisly packages promising worse to come – Flap suddenly finds himself caught up in a personal case he can’t step back from.

And with Dally acting strangely, Flap soon realizes there is a lot to this world he doesn’t know.

There’s also a lot he needs to find out about himself and the woman he thought he knew best.

A body shows up in the middle of the night and moments later, a man is gunned down right outside the door.

Dally assumes Flap has a hand in the murder. And Flap has equal reason to suspect Dally herself.

In a frantic quest to resolve their strained relationship, Flap delves wildly into their past in which he recovers old flames, finds new clients and sees through the worst of disguises.

If he and Dally are to make it through the long, dark night, Flap must find the real killer, the real motive, and the real truth behind Dally’s lost years.

Will he be able to work it out in time before the deadly past catches up with them?

Dead Easy is a gripping mystery thriller and the fifth in the Flap Tucker mystery series.

Desperate Housedogs is the first in the Pampered Pets series by Sparkle Abbey (pen name for Mary Lee Salsbury Woods & Anita Carter). It goes on sale from time to time and has recently dropped to $0.99 at Amazon US.

link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B005WZL0RK

Spoiler:
Quote:
When Caro Lamont, former psychologist turned pet therapist makes a house call to help Kevin Blackstone with his two misbehaving German Shepherd dogs, she expects frantic dogs, she expects a frantic dog owner, she even expects frantic neighbors. What she doesn’t expect is that two hours later the police will find Kevin dead, his dogs impounded; and that as the last person to see Kevin alive (well, except for the killer) she is suddenly a person of interest, at least according to Homicide Detective Judd Malone. Sparkle Abbey is the pseudonym of two mystery authors (Mary Lee Woods and Anita Carter). They are friends and neighbors as well as co-writers of the Pampered Pets Mystery Series. The pen name was created by combining the names of their rescue pets - Sparkle (Mary Lee’s cat) and Abbey (Anita’s dog). They reside in central Iowa, but if they could write anywhere, you would find them on the beach with their laptops and depending on the time of day either an iced tea or a margarita.)

Did you get a Kindle Daily Deal email alerting you to this?

I ask because I've seen people posting deals like this a couple of times when my Kindle Daily Deals email contains completely different books.

Yesterday my email stated "Browse today's Kindle Daily Deals from 99p including Not My Father's Son by Alan Cumming, Prince of Darkness by Sharon Penman and A Cold War by Alan Russell."

I've just recently read a couple of the early books from the Harry Bosch series and quite enjoyed them, so would have grabbed a few more if I'd seen this offer.

Edit: Some of them are still £1.99 today, so I'm off to grab a few now....

That's what my email said too, but when I clicked the link to the deal page on the website it showed those three AND the 18 Michael Connelly books. The email isn't always complete; it's worth looking at the actual site every day (via the link in the email) and seeing if there are any additional books.

+1

I always check the Amazon US and Amazon UK sites directly too, for this same reason. I sort of have the (totally unvalidated) impression that what I get via email is tailored a bit to what they think I might want, and, although much better than Kobo at sussing this out (since Kobo has been known to offer me books I already own FROM KOBO ), I still just prefer to check directly. It's not too hard with two bookmarks set...

The formula tends to be "including"

A Detective at Death's Door is the fifth in H.R.F. Keating's lesser known Harriet Martens series. It's a repeat US Kindle Countdown deal at $0.99 for about 6 1/4 more days.

link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B011LER31W

Spoiler:
Quote:
In her most personal case yet, Harriet Martens finds herself placed in grave danger at the hands of a deft and cunning poisoner.

Whilst relaxing with her husband at the Majestic pool one hot August Bank Holiday, Harriet does not expect the refreshing glass of Campari soda at her side to conceal a deadly drug.

And when she awakes from a doze she is no longer by the water, but in a hospital bed recovering from a near-fatal dose of aconitine.

She is at Death’s Door.

As Harriet makes her slow recovery, she tries to come to term with the terrible fact that someone wanted to kill her, and she is determined to find out who.

But no sooner has she mustered enough energy to begin making tentative enquiries, than the poisoner strikes again. And this time he is successful…

As the poisoner continues to kill again and again, Harriet must work against the clock, and against her slow recovery, to decode the puzzle of who is committing these shocking crimes.

A Detective at Death’s Door is a gripping crime thriller from the master of the genre, H. R. F. Keating.

Also the first 10 of Priscilla Royal's Mediaeval Mysteries are available at £0.99 each today only:

Has anyone read these? Are they good?

(I've read the Falco books. They're excellent. I think I'll be getting them to replace paper copies.)

I did, but the paper copies are going to get stashed in the attic... Some are signed.

I've never heard of Priscilla Royale, but the last book I purchased on a Kindle deal written by an unknown author was dire enough for me to not want to repeat the experience. If I'm reading historical fiction, I don't want modern character types in costume which is what it read like.
