Speech To Text

Does anyone know of a speech to text program that will work with dictation from an mp3 player? Can Dragon Speak do this? Thanks much -

I do believe Dragon will do that. I know my friend Elizabeth dictates into a recorder. while walking then Dragon translates it when she gets home.

Surely any MP3 player could be used simply by playing it into your PC's microphone?

Windows has a speech recognition software built in. Start>all programs>accessories>ease of access>Windows speech recognition. You just need a microphone and to go through the setup procedure. |

Be sure and train your Dragon. Doing the training helps it understand you better.

Line In preferred (instead of Mic if the program supports that) Be sure to use a very low starting volume on the MP3 player if you use the Mic input to avoid over driving the input. My rule of thumb. Recorder (Windows) setting 50% to 75% of the control range. Then Adjust the source (MP3) to get a proper level. Avoid the controls extremes (high or low)

Although not exactly what you're looking for, I have also had good luck using speech to text on newer phones as well. I just dictate to my phone in email and then send. When I'm home, I can then add the text to my WIP. |

I've never done this. I wonder if the speech sometimes gets garbled up.

I used speech to text when I cataloged my cookbooks. We only had 2 or 3 misunderstandings. The big one was it wanted to do Iceland instead of Eastland. Not bad over 300 entries. |
