In Amazon terminology: 5th gen = PW1, 6th gen = PW2, 7th gen = PW3 Doesn't matter if you get it wrong; the Kindle won't install the "wrong" firmware. |

OK, that took a while and the homescreen certainly looks different.

Re-opened the book I was reading and Kindle offered me a new font called Bookerly. Tried it but seemed harder to read than Caecillia so switched back. Page numbers still display on bottom line of screen. Tried a different book and still get page numbers. Library listing is harder to read, (less contrast?), but I guess I'll get used to it. Certainly looks quite stylish and "My Reading Lists" looks interesting. Maybe calibre will eventually have a way of populating these lists. Last edited by Agama; 02-05-2016 at 12:35 PM. |

I didn't have to resend but I guess it's worth a try. Have you tried different books?

If you are not sure of which firmware to install, wait for the OTA update.

I have found an oddity with the updated version. On the collections view one of my collections shows correctly that it contains 10 books. However, on tapping on the collection to view the book list only 3 are shown.

All the collections now behave this way. ??? Last edited by Agama; 02-05-2016 at 01:40 PM. |

It's worse than that: some books don't show up in any listing, but I can find them using the search function. Having switched off the new home screen I had to use the search to find the book I had been reading. It didn't even show up in my recent list. Very odd.

When you're looking at the collection toggle from On Device and Cloud and you'll see them all. There'll be a check mark beside the downloaded ones.

I think this is right. It's from memory. They keep changing everything so often I can't really keep up. Barry |

I just use Send to Kindle and all my covers show up. If they don't I just enlarge the cover, reconvert in Calibre, and send again.

				The Helvetica fiaco

It didn't occur to me to check Helvetica until I saw that post on slashdot. That is *really* bad. I never liked it, but it's gone from being one of the easiest to read fonts on the Kindle to one of the worst.

Amazon doesn't even use it it for their system font anymore. Look at the Sans fonts on the home page, and when reading the dictionary. Notice the shape of the 'a'. That's neither Helvetica nor Futura, but a new Sans font not even accessible from the font menu! But silver lining and all that. Maybe all this negative publicity over the state of Kindle font rendering will finally prompt Amazon to do something about it! Last edited by rashkae; 02-05-2016 at 04:49 PM. |
