Help with the 505

Hi everyone , got myself a sony ereader and I am in the UK
well here goes
I am a tad frustrated with all the format issues I am having

I keep finding book i want to read on all the sites that are in either mobi or microsoft formats. I have tried to work out the removal of DRM to run the books through calibre to format them to epub but its all a bit techy and it makes no sense as it seem to be based on code and dos boxes in python??? which i have no idea how to do or even where to begin

so i guess my gripe is that I feel i have been sold a betamax when everyone has VHS

lots of books to buy in mobi or microsoft and not many in epub, will this change or should i stick to paper and forget what i see as a great product the 505 because i cant buy any book i want to read in the correct format, or will it change ?

I'm not quite sure where you are looking. But, most of the books I see at books stores are also in Secure Adobe format which the Sony reads/supports just fine. Assuming that you don't want to learn to remove DRM (which is really much simpler than you expect, and if you did take the time to learn it I'm sure you would agree).

Both fictionwise.com and booksonboard.com have the secure Adobe format.

BOb is right. I've read numerous books in ADE and it works fine. And, if you're converting Mobi and Mobipocket books, why don't you convert them to .LRF vice ePub? Don't know if that'd make a difference but you might give it a try.

The Python thing will only be an issue for Mobi (or eReader) books. For MS Reader files you can use either the command line (ie Dos box) version or there is a graphical version (search for ConvertLit GUI) you ca use to downconvert the file.

Thanks guys , I was trying to get a specific book last night and was so frustrated with the fact that it was not availiable on epub, I was under the impression that PDF files were not as neat and readable as a epub file on the sony reader
but after a couple of hours i actually found the book i wanted as a normal pdf file , that i downloaded and it seems to be fine on the ereader for free ,yay
it was battlefield earth by l ron hubbard

thisconvertlit seems a bit easier than the python route,so will give that a try, thatks for your help guys
