I picked the fix with editor, but I don't use the editor.... I also don't strip it to text and build it up again. But I convert it to the base HTML (ok, unzip the epub) as then the formatting (think italics) is preserved. Then I'll clean the HTML, and rebuild the epub again using that (and the updated meta info file).

I fix up the basic metadata (author, published date) and add custom stuff (date purchased, price paid and where bought) and sometimes change the cover - especially if it's a generic cover.

Well, aside of baring it to txt, I do all the other tasks: standard metadata, custom metadata, edition prior to sending it to ereader....

I am in the "Huh?" category, simply because I almost never read eBooks. But for audiobooks, then I am in the "All metadata must be correct, with a nice cover, and I add custom information" group... 8) |

I check basic metadata and add a few custom field values but I don't edit the book or change covers.

I fix the metadata and remove superfluous tags, occasionally change the cover, but don't edit the book at all.

I used to have to edit my books. When I used eink readers it was a necessity for me. I hate large line spacing, large indents, serif fonts, and full justification. My Sony 950 didn't have good font sizes for me, so I always had to convert to make fonts big enough, and to specify my preferred font. Then I got my first Android tablet and found Moon+. I could change everything I needed without editing the book! Moon+ does change things it really shouldn't though, but it beats editing every book. I'd rather spend my time reading. I now just import into Calibre and download meta data to add a description and change the cover if necessary. I add the genre by mapping Goodreads genre returned from the meta data download to my more limited genres, add the read status, whether it was a purchase or free, and where purchased. I use the Modify epub plugin to remove fonts, add a meta data jacket, and a few other things I don't remember. I of course make sure the title and author are correct as well. I use the Reading list plugin to automatically send the book to my readers at the next wireless connection by CC. I also have an automatic wireless connection every morning on my Tab S to get my news feeds too. It sounds like a lot, but most things are populated by the meta data download and plugins, so most of this happens automatically. If I am importing multiple books from Amazon I can populate my custom columns all at the same time by bulk meta data edit. |

I seem to be in the majority with the third choice. I keep finding more issues with conversions from AZW3 to Epub for example. I try to upload them to Google Books and they get rejected, so often I convert to text file, add in a book cover and basic Epub format to please Google Books.
