I can confirm that this version of obok tested working with a just downloaded into Calibre (free) EPUB2 ebook from kobo, and a (different) kepub title downloaded into Calibre from Desktop v3.19.3765.

I'm wondering if ApprenticeHarper hasn't formally posted in Alf the updated version as yet because he wants it tested by users familiar with downloading from github?

I'm guessing it's for more testing for the new Linux part.The obok part is trivial to test. It either works or not.

Query re (Kobo) Epub3 - do the Tools work?

I've noticed lately that a number of newly released ebooks have epub3 from publishers like MacMillan.

These are nothing special ePub 3 and they use the same DRM depending if they are ePub or kepub.

These ePub 3 should really be ePub 2 as they don't use any features that are ePub 3 specific enough to matter. They are just ePub 2 in an ePub 3 costume.

I'm surprised this thread is not more active with the release of a new version DRM removal tools.

There was a linux fix to fallback on the default install location for python.exe, since many people have problems with python installed under WINE.

Unfortunately, I cannot currently get python to install without getting properly registered.

So I cannot test out the fix...

In theory, it should work perfectly -- it is a simple fix.

I've removed my post for the 6.3.5 DRM removal tools as there is a problem with them and a fix is being worked on. Stay with 6.3.4 for now.

I tried to add in some error checking code that someone had suggested, but it was a bad mistake.

I have just uploaded v6.3.6a with that code removed. That should sort things out.

Alf has updated the tools formally, version 6.3.6a of the tools is now available from the Alf site
