Complete 5 series already started in 2015 FAILED - got 3 done! Complete all ebooks/audiobooks purchased 2010 and earlier (30) FAILED Series Completed 3 Spoiler:
Magazines TBR: 13 Read: 4 Spoiler:
2016 Purchases TBR: 113 Read: 6 Total: $360.86 Spoiler:
Ebooks/Audiobooks 2010 & earlier Total Done: 8 Spoiler:
January 1. 3/5 When Elves Attack - Tim Dorsey (audio) Funny, I would call it a guy beach read It's amazing that Australia flourished with the crooks vying for dominance. Another great cozy Cozy, So so for me. I think others would like this. Very good, but Carl needed to be knocked upside the head. Anthromorphed cat. Strong women characters in this cozy. Some stories were good. Multiple authors writing from central theme. 8. 4/5 Murder To Go - Chloe Kendrick Cozy murder mystery featuring food truck. Excellent story! Love it. Will listen to more in this series. Good story, but not phenomenal. Good stories. Some excellent. Dragon theme stories written by different authors. This is HILARIOUS! I hope the next audio is as good! Paranormal cozy - woman turns into cat at night. Investigates local crime. Good, but a little padded. Another excellent historical fiction adventure. Good mystery. Doesn't have the padding that was in prior book. Ghost stories - good, but some were very excellent! 18. 4/5 The Mummer's Curse - Gillian Roberts Good mystery featuring Mummer's parade details. ALMOST a 5. Another good mystery, with fraud and ID switch going on. Good mystery, but lacks spark of her earlier books. Read decade ago. Good romance, I'm just not into romance anymore. New Author, Great introductory book! What's a private eye to do when even his clients are trying to kill him? Another great story - search for a sword 25. 4/5 Diabetes For Dummies (4th ed)- Alan L. Rubin MD Great book for someone newly diagnosed or family member. Excellent. First book of series. Relisten before listening to remaining series. Great military scifi with humor Humor for knitters Book 8 of the Australians. Fabulous! Can't believe this series is still strong! 1st book of series involving human superbeings vs. strangulating politicians. Autobiography of a man who has synesthesia - sees letters with colors. Amanda & McKenzie's first PI case. 3rd book - hilarious. I'm sad it's over!! Australia Gold rush and the damage it did. Not as good as his 1st 3 books, but inspiring to declutter! Really poor showing. Last that I will read from this author. Another wonderful story. A vacation in the country is fraught with death! 38. 4/5 Murder in Moscow - Jessica Fletcher/Donald Bain Good story, but some parts annoying. Wonderful story! Well paced fantasy story; completely different from Temaraire series. Another riveting story - this time set during the beginning of the Maori Wars in NZ. 42. 3/5 What An Earl Wants - Shirley Karr Regency romance - implausible but rather funny. Was he murdered or was it just an accident? A teacher is a victim of pranks. Sasha's step-mother dies by her hand or someone else's? Series of short stories; loved all but one. Lots of ocean going in this story. Lot of action going on too! 48. 4/5 The Vampire's Mail Order Bride - Kristen Painter (audio) Surprisingly funny. Boer War in Africa. This book dragged. Good book in desperate need of a good editor. 51. 4/5 Bite Me If You Can - Lyndsay Sands (audio) Funny vampire romance. Series getting a bit formulaic. It was a good, but not a great story. Uncle Lucien romance. Last book in series. Boer Wars; New Guinea I had trouble warming up to this book, although it picked up later. It was an ok story; some humor -not as snappy as the first book Funny, funny, funny. Loved this offbeat paranormal 57. 2/5 Mew is for Murder - Clea Simpson Cats, music, journalist all come together when an old cat woman is found dead. 58. 5/5 Aeronaut's Windlass - Jim Butcher (audio) Fabulous story. Loved it! Can hardly wait for the next book! Great short stories! I read half the book. What a waste. Billed as a funny romance. Romance yes, humor no Detective Noir - gave up halfway through. Funny implausible romance. Plot too convoluted for me. Memoir of a 1920 cook in England Only 3 of the stories were good IMHO. A couple lukewarm, the rest, eh. 67. 4/5 Florida Straits - Laurence Shames (audio) Investigator is a former New York gangster. Slightly humorous. The romance was fine. Unrealistic sister reunion. Lack of law knowledge. Funny book on knitting and knitters Colin Firth's narration makes this book tolerable (not a fan of non-action books). Funny and didn't go to the dogs. Loved it. Rincewind survives again! Kindof a filler book. I was a bit disappointed. Loved this mystery set in Australia. Short and enjoyable. Top notch thriller. I'll read more from author! Some ghost stories were excellent, some were just so so. Published 1904. Funny, but kindof in a mean way. Fortunately, short. 79. 1/5 The Long Quiche Goodbye - Avery Aames Couldn't even finish. Apocolyptic - the cover is misleading. Yes, there is a dragon. Briefly. Urban fantasy. It was an ok book. So very funny. Witches and Opera. Marguarite's story. Some humor. Hard to stay with story I didn't follow this story well. Better second time I totally loved this! Another military scifi winner for me! 1: Awful, or did not finish 2: So, so, or not to my taste 3: Good book 4: Very good book; possible reread. 5: Wonderful book! A keeper. Goal: Rule of Thirds or 100+ plus books
Because I've been reading fanfiction almost exclusively the last few years I decided I needed a challenge to help me even things out a bit. And to keep me from just rereading all of my old favorites without touching my obscenely large TBR pile, I've split my reading into three main categories: To Be Read; ReReads, and Fanfiction. The rule of thirds is that the amount read in the three categories has to be kept relatively even, with preference being given to the To Be Reads.
To Be Read - 38 (TitleAuthor) - (Genre) - (Rating) - (Pages) - (Words) Spoiler:
ReReads - 23 (TitleAuthor) - (Genre) - (Rating) - (Pages) - (Words) Spoiler:
Fanfiction - 313 stories (Fandom) - (Total Words) - (Total Pages ADE Estimate) Spoiler:

I'll take a slot. This time, I'm going to read much more than I did in 2015. 2015 had some life issues get in the way. 2016 won't have this so I'll have more time to read.
Currently Reading: Strange Candy by Laurell K. Hamilton Last edited by JSWolf; 12-07-2016 at 12:51 PM. |

I will reserve a place here. I'm participating for the first time in this reading challenge. I mainly read mystery, crime fiction, science fiction alongwith some serious reads in biographies, history, archaeology and physics.
This year I'm reaching nearly 140 books, but I'll keep my target around 120 books for 2016. As I have already spent a sizable amount on books this year, and still have a lot many on shelf to read yet, I will try to minimize my budget in 2016 on ebooks and pbooks. ![]() Will try to adopt a rating system for my read books, as proposed by some members here. ![]() Edit: adopted a rating system. ***** - Excellent. **** - Very good. *** - Average, pretty good. ** - Not too good. * - Bad. I'll claim this spot. I don't believe I've done a challenge here, before. My 2016 goals are about the same as the last couple of years: keep working on finishing series that I already started, try not to start any new series, and read 300 books. Although I am a member of KU this year, so if I start series there, it's ok

My goal is again to read as many books as possible. Perhaps cut back a bit on mysteries; read more non-fiction; and read more "classics" (both fiction and non-fiction).
After a three-month absence ...

One book per week
Not much of a poster here, though I'm an avid reader of the forum ^^
Goals:
I'm going to follow the book clubs to challenge myself a little and force myself to achieve Goal #8. I don't have a specific book count (at least 52) but I want to make sure I read regularly, hence Goal #1. I'll have to stop being so lazy to achieve Goal #5 (why are my German books so huge?) and Goal #6 is going to be a real challenge, even if I pick children's books... Currently reading: 杨红樱 - 女生日记 (2006)作家出版社 (that's going to take a couple of month) Mann, Thomas. (1912). Der Tod in Venedig. So, week by week... Spoiler:
