The Kobo Glo HD is up to CA$119 at Chapters plus shipping, while it's on sale at Kobo for $US99 with free shipping. Assuming perkopolis still works for an extra 10% off and you get 5% back if you go through ebates.com, the price is knocked down roughly to the Chapters sale price. I don't know how long this will last, so anyone who missed the Chapters sale might want to jump.

Mom picked up hubby a 32" Roku TV for Christmas. He's playing with it now. It's Best Buy Insignia brand. She paid $179.99+tax. I'm not TV savvy so not sure if she got a deal or not. It's really nice though.

If they're happy with the set, that's the main thing. $179 is pretty nominal for any 32" in LCD, and if they were going to spend another $30 or more on a Roku anyway.....

Not to mention I haven't seen any killer deals out there this year. Retailers must have been making their sales goal because there was no real desperation or last minute lowering. We bought a TV last year. The deals were about the same this year. Last year the deal was a pretty good drop from the year before, but this year they stayed in that same sale range. Our tv is not a high end one, but we had an old 'tube' model that only sort of had HD. The new one has a great picture, but the sound is something you'd expect out of an old jalopy AM radio. Luckily we never have the sound on since all we watch is football.

Yes, I heard predictions that Black Friday was not going to be such a big deal anymore, and it looks like they were correct. Good, I say. Quote:
Any decent sound bar can make a HUGE improvement, in case you ever want to enjoy an action movie. :-) I added a $99 Panasonic bar that I got on clearance last year, and the sound is much more enjoyable, dialog much clearer even at low volume, etc. ApK

We have it hooked up to our stereo system so when we want good sound, we use that. It's just that we have to do some switch thingie and turn on this and that and then there are 3 remotes to run everything...and so we don't bother very often. We had a guest one time who was over watching the game with us. We hadn't even thought about the fact the sound wasn't on because we never have it on. He finally asked why the sound wasn't working. When we told him we never turned it on, his eyes got REALLY big and he sat there for a while looking like he might burst. I finally asked if it bothered him and he said, "It's driving me crazy with no sound!" But it's just football. The announcers blather on about nothing and we already know the rules so there's not much of interest to hear! We did turn the sound on for him. But it made me laugh because we had no idea it was bugging him.

It's LED not LCD like our Sony. So newer technology. He loves it. My only complaint is the headphones which has a separate volume on the TV are not very loud. I guess he needs a new set of those now.

The lighting source is LED, rather than older-style fluorescent lighting, that's why they are marketed as "LED TVs." True LED display TVs are far more expensive, like these OLED sets at Best Buy: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/tvs/oled...at301000050010 But LED lighting does make the set thinner, and lighter, and more energy efficient, all properties that don't play well with big heavy powerful audio amps and speakers! Hence the anemic built-in sound systems. Last edited by ApK; 12-23-2015 at 03:04 PM.
