Personally I download the epubs. Very often, the versions are different. The epub version seems to be updated differently, so sometimes the formatting has been fixed.

I can confirm that using Calibre obok can not decrypt ebooks from the latest Kobo Desktop, v3.19.3665.

Calibre v.2.46
Obok v3.1.4

EDIT1: ok, I might be onto something...
EDIT2: alright, I got it working again; I think Kobo devs are onto us though...

My bad.
Although, as I was feared last time, Kobo might start to tweak their scheme every release, and as I said, I'm not expert, so it is conceivable that updating the tools will be less than effective most of the time.
So I would start thinking of a long-term strategy to free your boks.
I sure hope that publishers will ditch the encryption in favor of the digital watermarks very soon.

I seem to recall that the policy regarding links to Alf's site was changed a while back and it was now ok to link there? Or did I get that wrong?

Thank you very much for your efforts. They form the next version of obok and the finished version has been emailed to apprentice Harper for inclusion in the next release of the tools.

The revised guidelines are:

As listed in the Posting Guidelines

In practice this means you're free to mention Apprentice Alf's blog, and Apprentice Harper's github repository, and that new versions are available there. You may link to news sites that also mention this, and that have links to those places. But you may not provide direct links to the sites hosting the tools.

All this 'at one remove' stuff is necessary because of the complex laws in various jurisdictions regarding DRM and DRM circumvention.

What I think we didn't quite get is that the link we post has to contain a link to a different site and not a link within the same site. That's what we didn't get. But that's now been sorted thanks to someone's post on the Alf blog.
