PRS-505 a book is freezing...

I use an old SONY PRS-505 which works perfectly. Untill yesterday, when I bought a book (to be honest is not allways a good idea!).
The book can be read up to page 12. And then the reader shutdown and reopen. but I cann't read the book.

Nevetheless, the book works perfectly with my Ipad, my telephone and my PC.

and all the other books work fine on the reader.

I suppose that there is a code problèm in the book? I cann't open the book even if I try to open a further page.

What book did you buy? What do you see after page 12 when you view it with ADE?

Do you have Calibre on your computer? Sometimes converting it from an EPUB to an EPUB will clean up the problem. I've done that before to get a book to play nicely with my Sony device.

If this doesn't help, maybe try getting a refund (if possible) and re-purchasing it from a different vendor?

I am used to calibre and I tried all the possible method:
The "bad" one as usual... downloading with ADE and copiing to my reader with Calibre and taking away the DRM
The "good" one with Reader from Sony and all the ADE trip
The other good one with Calibre and without taking away the DRM...
Downloading directly with ADE.

ADE can read the book , so my Ipad can, my Android phone etc... Only the Sony reader and App cann't.


I bought other books at the same place and put them and read them without problem...

On the next page, there is nothing special! No link no photo,
I can read it on every support exepted on my Sony reader and... on the Reader app!!!

That's the one thing I DON'T miss about my old dead 505.

The 505 has a limit of 300K limit for the individual (x)html files inside the ePub. This limit does NOT include the images, as they are only referenced inside the (x)html files and are placed elsewhere.

Have a look inside the book with calibre's editor or Sigil to see if there are any files larger than 300K and in that case split them.

If there were xhtml files larger than 300K, the 505 would give an error message and not freeze.

So, in your experience, what could cause the freezing?

Unsupported features in the CSS are usually ignored but normally cause no problems.

One issue could be images that are too large or too many images. Could be a really screwy ePub like one converted from an old Mobi. Maybe it's something not correct with the ePub but to find that out validating it would be a good idea.

Other than that, I'd need to have a look at the ePub.

My T1 (and possible T3) does not complain about files bigger than 230 or 300kB, it simply stops there, as it would have had discovered a syntax error (eg an unpaired tag).

Giving "cryptic" messages to a customer that has no idea anyway of the ePub requirements, and moreover has no possibility to correct the problem, is IMHO futile!

Hello Thank you for all your answers!
The size of the epub is 389K but I get many others biggers and no problem with it. So I am not sure there is a problème coming from the size.
I think it's a bit touchy to send you the epub... ?
The only thing I see is that it is full with links... May be it is what make the trouble?
The funny is that the Reader app from Sony cann't read it. Nore the PRS-505. but all the other devices and program can...

Just to get you update about my book! The editor called me telling there was certainly no problèm with the book but with my device!

As I will not have help from "the officials', I tried an other method.

I recorded the book as a mobi. Then I erased all other epub and others that I tested formats. And I re-encoded the mobi to epub ... and poof! everything is working.
