No almost about it. Between podcasts, Audible and TTS it is used daily. Very nice little audio device. If no one's home but me I'll send the audio from it to the Echo. Great battery life!

Ok, so all you guys that got the $35 Fire this year. I got one for my Father In Law for Christmas. It will have to be registered to my account because they don't have one. Is there a way for me to turn off his ability to accidentally buy things but still let him get free apps? I got my mom one, but I trust her to not push buttons she is told not to. Him, I worry about!!
I know there is a Fire section under Kindle, there just doesn't seem to be much traffic there. That is why I asked here....

No; once you lock out buying with a password, he can't even get the free apps. Easy work around is for him to tell you what he wants. You then get it with your device. That puts it in the cloud where he can retrieve it.

...or your mom can do it for him.

I don't know but AT&T says it won't work here. I've had all I could take with them on my Fire Phone. The quality of service is just horrible here on Straight Talk. I'm going back to Verizon on Straight Talk. I'm tired of missing calls and texts plus getting voice mail three days later.

Eh, poo, that is what I was afraid of. I'll have to think on this one, all I need is a $10,000 visa bill. I guess the good news is he doesn't have internet in his home, so that will cut down a lot of oops buys.
I think mom will have her hands full just trying to figure out how to use it herself. She is 88, so I think she does pretty darn good for her age. I hope I'm doing that well at that age!

Well, they are a little odd about allowing their credit card to be used online. I just don't think they would go for it.
I did Google this, and it doesn't look like you can even set one up with just a gift card. Shame, I would just buy them a gift card and use that to set it up.
That or Amazon should have a way to turn off One Click Buying on a per device basis. If they had to put in a credit card number that would stop them.
I saw somewhere that you can add Google Store to this Fire. Maybe I'll try that. Any one here done that?

Get a prepaid credit card and keep a minimum balance on it. It's what I use.

Didn't someone here, probably Monkey, say that if you spend $100 or $150 at Amazon with an Amex card before Dec. 31, something good will happen?

1) Do you think a Bluebird card will qualify?

Also, if you do shop regularly at Wal-mart, you can use their Savings Catcher and add your Wal-mart receipts. (You can either add them online by typing in the receipt number, or scan them with their app. It's flaky, but beats the hell out of typing in that long number.) Any money you get back can be cashed out to a Bluebird card. I got lucky last fall and got a decent amount back, then cashed in before the end of February to get the double credit offer by cashing out to Bluebird. Ended up with over $100 free from that!

It's one of the few things I don't mind uploading receipts for cause... well Wal-mart already knows what I bought because I use a debit card. So no additional privacy lost.

I have a Bluebird and logged in to check the offers on it. There's not anything from them for Amazon. Could be something Amazon is doing, but I couldn't find it.
