Kobo Aura H2O and the use of a dictionary

Dear owners of H2O Could you elucidate on the use of a dicionary in this model? I am still a learner of English. If I come across an unknown word while reading, I should press long the word and will see the pop-up with its dictionary definition. However, I read that Kobo dictionaries do not recognise conjugated forms of words. Therefore, when there is a word with e.g. plural -s ending or in past tense form - no definiton can appear. Am I right? What do you think about the functionality of the English dicionary. Is it true that it is much less comfortable than in Kindle PW? I will be very grateful for any feedback Last edited by Percivale; 10-26-2015 at 10:18 PM. |

A long press of measurements gave me the definition of measurement. Required gave me the definition for require. So, expected behaviour. I've no argument with the dictionary on it |

Is it possible to install one's own dictionary or all those definitions come only from a default Kobos' English dictionary? | |

As a heavy user of a dictionary there are few thing that i don't like. -If a phrase shows as "word-word" it douse not show the definition, despite that there is definition to phrase "word word". -If I mark more than one word and the phrase don't existing in dictionary, the popup-dict does not appear, and i can't check if there definition in other dictionary . -If kobo can add a dictionary option in search ( in book, wikipidia, google, dictionary), that I can see all dictionary pages at once. |

Just found this: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=232883 ;_) "Hi, I am Alberto Pettarin, the creator of Penelope, a tool for creating/merging/converting dictionaries, including the Kobo format. Since I am overloaded by requests like "can you convert this dictionary X for my Kobo?", I start this thread to collect links to custom dictionaries for Kobo eReaders. Please respect the copyright laws, and NEVER EVER post about converted dictionaries that infringe them. (Also, do not attempt at mailing me asking for converting copyrighted material, I will not help you on that.) Instructions on how to install a custom dictionary on your Kobo can be found in the README of the GitHub repo: https://github.com/pettarin/penelope" |

Thank You for all valuable answers To make things clear: -It is possible to add new dictionaries. -BUT is it possible to set such a dictionary as a default one?? -it is not possible to check the meaning of a phrasal verb since the dictionary doesn’t recognize more than one word at a time? Correct? -If come across a word which is not a typical lexical item but rather some scientific, biological etc. term - is it possible to look it up in Wikipedia in Kobo? Is Kindle PW much better as far as dictionary possibilities are concerned? Last edited by Percivale; 10-26-2015 at 10:11 PM. |
