Well I read 'Better Homes and Corpses by Kathleen Bridge' which I would describe as well written cozy, it covered all the usual cliches but did them well.

I tried to read a freebie I had in my library, Missy the Werecat by PG Allison but I had to abandon it. Good concept terrible execution I then read The Long Way Down (Daniel Faust Book 1) by Craig Schaefer, an urban Fantasy which is one of my favourite type of books to read- once I finished that I went straight onto book 2, Redemption Song. I am going to have to go onto something different after this so I don't devour the remaining 3 of the series. |

This was a very interesting book. A little dry in some places but it held my attention. |

Currently reading The Door in the Hedge by Robin McKinley -- short stories based on classic fairy tales. It is part of the Overdrive "Big Library Read". And, I'm reading The Aeronaut's Windlass, first book in the new Cinder Spires series by Jim Butcher. Very good so far & I'm about 1/2 way in.

Three books completed in the last few days:

"Chicks 'n Chained Males", edited by Esther Friesner. Compilation of fantasy stories involving women. Very enjoyable. Bought from Baen in 2002. "Death at the President's Lodging", by Michael Innes. A new author for me. Excellent detective story set in a college in an English university town modelled after (but not) Oxford or Cambridge. An interesting cast of characters and very well-written. A long series of books to look forward to! "The Warmasters", by David Weber, Eric Flint, and David Drake. Again bought from Baen in 2002. Three short novellas by good authors. David Weber's contribution is the best, I though: a story about Honor Harrington on her initial Midshipman's assignment to a starship. Then a "Belisarius" story by Eric Flint, but, unlike the others, this was simply an extract from the published novels, hence I'd read it before. Finally a story from the "Hammer's Slammers" universe of David Drake, which was extremely enjoyable. All in all, extremely good. Last edited by HarryT; 10-23-2015 at 03:41 PM. |

I am about 250 pages into Hell's Foundations Quiver by David Weber. This is the new Safehold book. it is over 700 pages and I was afraid it might be another of Weber's excruciatingly slow info dump novels. So far it isn't and I am enjoying it.

I'm looking forward to that one. But unless there's a special offer, I'll wait until the price drops when the paperback comes out - in about 10 months!

The main things that kept me going were to find out what happens with Thirsk (and Ahlvarez) and with the Harchongese; also, the faint hope that the Ghaba will show up and resolve everything
