Finished Plague at Redhook: Life Extension Without End, by Stephen Euin Cobb. Seems to be his debut novel. WHile this one was good, the other two were better, but that only shows how practice improves ones art.

Next up, some old-school Warshawski: indemnity Only by Sara Paretsky.

Just finished "Eye of the Storm" by Jack Higgins. This is the first of his lengthy series of thrillers whose protagonist is the hit man Sean Dillon. In this book Dillon is hired by Saddam Hussein to assassinate the Prime Minister of Britain. Good book, but obviously somewhat dated politically, being originally published in 1992. Recommended.

Finally getting somewhere with Interesting Times by Terry Pratchett. This book just seems to be a lightning rod for events making it difficult to read. But I'm a third of the way through now. Lots of fun. Cohen the Barbarian always makes me smile.

Having just read 'Alphabet House' by Jussi Adler Olsen, I am
now working my way through all of his 'Department Q' series.
And loving every minute of it! Good plots, good dialogue and
an interesting mix of characters. Came across these on the
suggestion of someone on another forum I use (not a book
related one,as it goes!) and am glad I did.

Shadows of Self was very good which is what I have come to expect from Brandon Sanderson. It didn't have as much of a cliffhanger as I was expecting which was nice too. Looking forward to book 2 in January.

Started Kidnapped which has been hard to get into because of the antiquated language. I keep having to stop and look up what words mean which really slows me down and breaks immersion. I should be done tomorrow.

I finished The Heart Goes Last, the latest Atwood. It was good and a fascinating concept. I was unsatisfied with the ending, though.

Now, on to A Brief History of Seven Killings!

And then I forget my Kindle at work. DOH!!! I wasn't even able to find a free version using the Kindle app when I tried which is weird. I wonder if they prioritize the non-free versions when using the app? I found it when I got home but by then it was too late.

Oh well, I was able to get 1Q84 and start reading it on my phone. It seems interesting so far which is good because I wasn't expecting a 1,200 page monster of a book when I reserved it from the library. I had heard good things and didn't look too deeply into it. Oops.

Finished indemnity Only; decent read... it was written in the late '70s and it reminded me of all the things that have changed since my childhood-- carbon paper (though still around) is merely a concept to my kids, for instance.

At any rate, I needed to take a break form female protagonists (my TBR is chock full of them), so I have started reading The Chronicles of Master Li and Number Ten Ox by Barry Hughart. I am in chapter 8 of the first story and so far it is hilarious. I am actually laughing out loud at Li Kao's antics.

I started Dream London by Tony Ballantyne last night. I'm not sure what to think of it so far, it certainly isn't a book I have a hard time putting down. Hopefully it's just me having to get into the story.

1/3 of the way through A Desert Called Peace by Tom Kratman. Decided it was time to go through and start reading my backlog of Baen ebooks.

Ha! I've been doing that for several years now; I'm alternating Baen books and other reading. So far I've caught up from 1999 (which is when the "Webscriptions" started) to May 2002. The problem is, of course, that each year sees another year of new Baen books released, so I'm only managing to actually reduce my backlog by a few months every year

I'm trying to do the same, though it's made a bit easier for me. I simply won't read anything by Krattman, and a couple of others.
