Well technically they intended those deals for new customers only, so there's no reason to consider auto-renewal for existing customers.

I'm just happy they allowed us to use the gift-to-self loophole last time, and hope they do it again this time.

I just tried it and I was going to get charged $99.

Boo hoo! I tried gifting from my Prime account to a non-Prime account and the price was also $99. It looks like the only way to qualify is to sign up directly from a new Prime account.

Thanks to everyone who posted! Since I already have a Prime subscription, I won't even try for the reduced rate then.

For those who do qualify for the $67 offer as new Prime members, be sure to go through checkout beyond the initial shopping cart page. The Amazon Prime page states: "Although the price in your cart will show $99, the promotion discount will be applied at checkout."

That worried me slightly when I signed up earlier, but decided it would be easy enough to contact CS if an adjustment needed to be made and continued. The discount is reflected on the next page, before the order is placed

The conditions include that the gift membership does not auto-renew (hardly surprising) but also that it is not eligible for promotional offers. Which leads to the question of whether it is reasonable to expect promotional offers worth $32 or more during a year of membership?

I don't really think it's unreasonable for existing prime members, without whom the show Transparent never would have been successful (only Prime members could watch it), to expect to get on a big discount because of the success of said show.

Or another way of putting it, it's kind of a slap in the face of all those who made this possible. Especially after the farce that was "Prime Day" back in July.

Amazon could have been smarter about this and done the big discount for new members and offered existing ones a smaller discount for renewing early. It would have kept everyone happy.

I wanted to buy this for my mother, and I can't using this link because I already have Prime. I tried the link earlier in the thread ( https://www.amazon.com/gp/prime/pipe...iglink20714-20 ) and continued on until checkout but it stayed at $99. Has anyone else figured out how to gift this to someone else?

Edit: never mind, I just saw the two responses that said no gifting. My mother would like Prime, but wouldn't pay for it.
