Is LM Bujold going self-pub for her backlist?
This caught my eye over at Goodreads:

The whole Vorkosigan series is being reissued from what I understand.
If you check on Amazon most of the Vorkosigan series is already direct-placement for kindle. Just an Author and Publisher working together for mutual benefits. This is one of the reason you can no longer buy the Vorkosigan Omnibus editions the e-rights for them have reverted.

Ron Miller has a very good relationship with Baen.

IIRC she's been doing the self pub individual editions as ebooks for years now. Baen used to, maybe still does, buy non-exclusive world rights for eBooks meaning the author can publish other editions if they choose.

Yep. That provision began way back when Baen did not distribute ebooks.

I came across Bujold's self-pub editions three or four years ago. Yech. The covers were perfect examples of how not to design a book cover, they were that bad.

IIRC There was a bit of a hissy when the Cryoburn (BAEN free) CD got included in books.

Those Covers sure are not up to Baen quality.

BAEN has a house style for their covers which is rather pulpish, on purpose.
(Sometimes they get garish, though.)

Bujold seems to be going with stylized allegorical designs that encapsulate the core story in one image rather than dramatizing a specific scene.
Different design philosophies at work.
Just a matter of taste.
