You can create a custom column for nationality.

Nationality is an Author attribute not a Book attribute - it rightly belongs in whatever the Author Link field references. And it may not directly indicate the language in which an Author writes.

I try to limit the use of custom columns, as I can, and store nothing important in them - so it is not a solution for my needs. Their values are not transported to metadatas, stored in files; they only seems in OPF files. But storing metadata in outer file, in my opinion, is not a good solution. (Compare it with FLAC! I can store ANYTHING I want, in tags, in the file themselve. And, not less important, anything with any tag name. My opinion: the books metadata solution, compairing with music files', is in late about 15-20 years. Yes, except of the xml- and archive-structured EPUB - but I can not use it, my preferred type is MOBI. Why? Because MobiPocket Reader can not read EPUB, but can MOBI. I use Calibre only for organizing, but read books in MPR. The cause: Calibre reads wrong, with big defects.

You forgot to Polish or Modify EPUB
Calibre does not update the Library copy automatically. It does update the sent copy, even if the Library copy remains pristine

All my custom colums appear INSIDE the books:content.opf

I do not very like the type themselve, too. It cuts to parts the core htm file. I tried to set in Calibre not to cut (set limit to 1000 MB) - but this setting did not do his job.
OK, it will be not a (very...) big thing, cutting of the file, I could be live with it (temporary - there ARE cases, when I must to use the HTM file themselve from archiv container) - but it seems, when reading the file! As, like, chapter - I must to click to "next". And this behavior, in my opinion, is not permissible: technical things must not change the books appereance, parts: author the only person, who has rights to do it. So, EPUB is not a variant for me.

Custom columns are by definition Book attributes

The Author Link field can be accessed in the Manage Authors list - right click an Author name in Book Details sidebar, or Tag Browser sidebar - it wants a valid URI - could be a web address, a local file system address or anything else that will cough up an URI that the operating system knows how to reach.

Thank you for your tip! Really, it does the half of my wish; I shall use it.

Only half, because the parameters of the author (nationality, in first; but there are sex, too, and so on) will not searchable; and will not assignable in a database with a simple act: identifying the author. Every time I must to fill it, and will not more clear the situation in case of multiple authors. So, I would like to leave it in wish list.

I have (yet) 2,000 books, not imported into calibre. Most of them has cover in the same folder and with the same file name (author[s] - title.ext), as book, with extension JPG or PNG.

Is there a way to automate the import of covers into books' metadata?

In my opinion, no probleme the quality: it is easy to check covers after.

My idea: checkbox to every founded independent data field (publisher, year...) as an option, use or not that founded data; with existing already same type data, if presents, for comparing (like in case of downloading the cover).

CTRL+D is the shortcut key for downloading metadata in bulk. There is an option to configure Metadata download -- you can choose which metadata to download, as a whole or per-source.

Bulk Metadata download chooses the best match, and allows you to review the downloaded metadata and individually choose which fields to keep.

Yes, exactly that is! Thank you for your help.

A nuance: when I decide not to keep the downloaded cover, and there is no previous cover in that book's metadata, and I click on the arrow button between the downloaded (left) and non-existing (right) covers, the left disappears - but althought, the new cover added to the metadata.

Sorry, it does not work. I tried it earlier. It only attempts to get the files, as book files. As the image files Calibre counts as non-book files, it simply ignores them. No cover import option.
