Well, we survived the storm, and have a break today before the next wave hits. Only lost power for about 12 hours. Not bad, considering there were >500,000 homes without power across the region. Still some without, though - they're going to have a quieter Sunday than one would expect in August. All in all, it was a good chance to prep the generator for the fall season, since we actually lost power during the day, when it wasn't (briefly) actually raining, and the temperature was quite balmy. Looks like the battery is drained, so that needs to be fixed, but the good old Yamaha started on the second pull.
Celebrating the break in the rains with a large mug of Lion Mountain Keemun. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

About to break out the Rioja as I sit and look out over the rolling hills of Derbyshire. Nothing worse than a little rain in prospect for us tonight. |

Today looks good, but I expect more to roll in tonight. The wind yesterday was fierce, and that was the cause of all the power outages. With the drought, soil is dry, and roots are brittle. Combine that with wind, and you have a lot of trees down across power lines. |

Next round has started, but the Metro region is down to ONLY 175,000 households without power. Just in time for the next storm to hit. Though this one should only have 40-50 km/h winds.

Water, iced. I've got a new Rooibos coming so I'm holding out on my daily pot of tea till it gets here.
Which means it will probably be hours and hours. (Am I the only one that constantly tries to spell it "Roobios"?) |

I'm in tea denial. Peet's has sold out their tea business to Mighty Leaf, and some of my favourites will be gone forever. (Phoenix Mountain Oolong, for example.) The good news is that the main tea blender/buyer from Peet's is moving over to Mighty Leaf, so at least some of the blends will be available. Pride of the Port (my DW's favourite cuppa) is moving, and the Anniversary and Holiday blends will move. And Lion Mountain Keemun will be available in limited quantities. So, looking around for alternative sources of good Dan Cong Oolongs. I've had others I didn't like as much, but I'll keep trying. And we'll see how well Mighty Leaf does with their version of English Breakfast. Though what a tea company that focuses on fruit teas would know about a good English cuppa is beyond me. Drinking faux San Pellegrino, trying to pretend that I'll be able to find the tea I want. |
