Unfortunately the first book looked 1st person so I never dug deeper.

Based on the recommendations (and my personal search) the official marketed as 'SF Romance' genre is not for me so I'm going to give up and stick to Space Opera or other SF books that don't have the 'Romance' label attached.

I recommend Dark Horse by Michelle Diener. (Not written in 1st person) It's also available free right now on Kindle Unlimited

FizzyWater - I would add 'Susan Kearney Rystani Warrior series' to your "Don't Bother With" section. I would very much NOT recommend them. I still have dents in my wall from throwing the books across the room.

I enjoyed Ruth Nestvold's Looking Through Lace, it is only short but is real SF in third person with a romantic element.

Check out the Paradox Trilogy by Rachel Bach. Really good SF series with some romance in it.

Don't know if this would be right for you but I highly recommend Time Shifters by Shanna Lauffey. First book in a series. There is some first person at the beginning of each chapter but then the story is mostly in third person.

It's about a people who can shift through time or space, though not both at the same time. It's not specifically Romance, but there's a strong romantic angle and it's clean, no erotica.
