Liaden fans, help me out

Honestly, Paul, I was trying to avoid anything spoiler in my post, but if you think it is, then by all means, stick any additional tags around it you want! I just put the only part that I thought might cross over into a spoiler or current events into tags. The other three comments I think are more on the order of "what the author _might_ do" speculation.

Alliance of Equals, I say, has a (hardcover) publication date of July 5, 2016.

We receive our authors’ proofs anywhere from two to three months ahead of the hardcover publication date, so, counting backward from July: June. May. Out of curiosity has anyone noticed big differences between the eArcs and the final edits? I'm not enough of a spelling or grammar nazi to be bothered by the occasional oops and don't think anything major slipped past.

I'm sure there are minor differences, but nothing major. In theory, the only differences should be spelling/grammar. Maybe a sentence rewritten that ended up not working. But nothing more serious. Of course, with some authors, almost anything can change, including at least one instance where the ending changed, I'm told. But that is extremely rare, and frankly impossible for Lee & Miller. They're consummate professionals.

For Liaden books, I buy the eARC, then buy and read the Audible version when it comes out. And go back and get the "official" version at some point when I'm ready for a re-read.

I don't buy the eArcs, but Baen is not known for heavy copyediting, at least for their established authors. My suspicion is that the only changes made would be for errors reported by either the author or early eArc readers.

And early eArc readers are not encouraged to report errors. Given that the manuscript is still subject to a proofread, at least.

I think that sometimes things are fleshed out more or less between the two versions. I'll sometimes read the "official" book by an author and remember things about the story that weren't in that version, then remember that I had read the ARC, or a preview, of the story earlier and that the final story had slightly changed from the original.

There are some of us who read rolanni (aka, Eagles over the Kennebec), not blog without a name. I've never quite figured out why two blogs, but I find the livejournal interface and RSS feed better. IAC, while I saw these, I appreciate your posting here. As you point out, there are those who might not see this else.

The first novel in the Theo Waitley arc of the Liaden Universe(r), Fledgling, is available for $1.99 as part of the Audible "Treat Yourself" sale. This book is an excellent entry point into the Liaden Universe if you haven't read any of these wonderful books before, and is well read by Eileen Stevens. Fledgling is a YA coming of age story, but don't let that stop you - this is very much a series that adults can enjoy equally. The Liaden stories are character driven, not technology driven, and are the sort of books that can be read and re-read many times, IMO. Even if you've read this book before, I recommend getting the Audible book at this price. Listening to a book is a very different experience in many ways, and I predict you'll get new things out of the audio book.
