I won't be reading it because it is steampunk. I will be reading it because it is Jim Butcher.

I don't really have anything for or against steampunk, I'll read it if it sounds interesting.

I have access to a couple OverDrive libraries, I made sure to recommend it. Assuming they buy it, you usually end up the first on the list. Like meeeeeee!!

I've pre-ordered it for the same reason. Jim Butcher is the only author, I believe, who has been able to get me out of my comfort-zone price range. I won't spend $13.99 on just anybody.

I won't spend that much on Jim Butcher either. When I preordered in march the price was $11.84 - so that is what it is going to be for me (plus tax).

You would have to cancel and preorder again. You don't automatically get a price drop, I don't believe, if the preorder goes on "sale". It is just guranteed that your price won't go up.

Amazon will charge you the lowest price an ebook sold for in between the time you pre-ordered it and the time it was released and sold to you.
It's one of those "cutomer-centric" things they seem fascinated with -- why make a customer go through pointless click-work to claim the lower price?

Actually yes I do. Amazon has always honored the lower price of a pre-order, even when I didn't know there was a price change.

Are you quite sure? Not trying to nitpick, but did it happen to you that a preorder item went down due to this? I know if you have items in cart saved for later you get a notification that something changed price up or down. I don't remember seeing the price of Aeronaut's Windlass to go down - unless my 11.84 price is the minimum it was and has not went down ever below it.

Jim Butcher describes Harry this way in an interview with SequentialTart:
