I am trying to decide between a kindle pw3 or glo hd.

And why kind of bothers me - I was watching a youtube video comparing the two - and during the video the kobo frooze while changing fonts. Is that a common things for Kobos or was this just a fluke. Also the page turn speed. It seems that the glo hd just isn't as fast as the pw3. However the Kobo apparently is faster with kepubs - I wonder how much faster - does it reach the Kindle speeds ? |

I don't have a Glo HD, so can't give any insight as to that unit specifically, but since it's a newer model than the Aura HD, I would expect it to be just as fast if not faster. |

It could have been an issue with that font. No Reader is perfect and you can read about problems with every single one of them.

I remember this video and the person who was doing the comparison told it was the first time it happened. Normally it's nearly as fast as the Kindle.

Just guessing, in the 4 or 5 years I've been using Kindles it's probably happened 2 or 3 times. If I used a Kobo as much it would probably happen to it, too. Comparing the Kobo and the Kindle side by side I think the Kindle looks better in a lot of ways. Better contrast, more evenly lit, pages turn faster, etc. However, when reading I never notice any of that. I'm perfectly happy reading on either one. I prefer the Kindle mostly because I prefer the ecosystem. If I only had a Kobo that would be okay, too. Barry |

Both devices are good; it really is down to personal preference. I'm sure the OP will be happy with either.

			Well I made my decision.

I went with the Kobo Aura h20 (because I love to read in the tub). Hopefully I will be happy with it. |

Well ended up going for new Paperwhite, couldnt slip the H20 past the boss (wife) and amazon offered me a very nice deal as a previous kindle customer when I rang them up.

Collection management woes aside It should still be a nice reader, they initially offered me the refurbished PW2 but I said no as it still had only 1.3gb usable storage which was a dealbreaker. |

I have a Kobo Glo. Last year after returning from holiday (No water sand or beach

), it started freezing every few pages and became totally unresponsive. I tried all sorts of things, factory resets etc; all to no avail. Up until that point (18 months or so of ownership) I loved it, but it was aways glitchy and very slow with creating collections/shelves.I caved, returned to Amazon, and bought a PW2 and that's been rock solid. Just as reliable as the Kindle Keyboard I had before the Glo. A few months later Kobo did a firmware update and it seemed to work again for a while, so I resurrected it. It worked fine for a month or two and then started freezing again! The PW2 is still going strong. Another firmware update and it (the Kobo Glo) is working fine again! The problem is that, without the PW2, I'd have had a year plus of sporadic annoying and unsatisfying reading sessions, always worrying when the next freeze was going to occur. That and spending my life with an unbent paperclip at the ready, doesn't seem like fun. I keep the Glo as a backup device. Sadly, I prefer it's size and weight to the PW2, however, all things considered, I feel the PW2 is a better reading experience. I'm not saying that all Kobo's are bad, I've only had one, but the experience has definitely been less than stellar! Ongoing, I'm much more likely to be looking at an Amazon offering such as the Voyage Two, should it ever appear. Last edited by chromedome; 08-17-2015 at 10:53 AM. |

My point is that "Kobo is not recommended due to buggy firmware, get a Kindle instead" is (a) false ("is not recommended"? Globally? By internet vote? What?), and (b) not a useful response to a person who was very specific that they were asking for opinions comparing two Kobo devices - and even giving quite reasonable reasons for that choice (collections management). And a person in the UK at that, so they wouldn't even be able to so much as read library books on a Kindle, as well as not being able to manage their collections as they choose.

Despite having brilliant experiences with multiple Kobos personally, I don't jump into every "Hey, Paperwhite or Voyage?" thread opining "Kindles are not recommended due to their limited firmware and crappy collections management, get a Kobo instead". Quote:
