In July 2015 Amazon announced in their forums an Update to the older PW .... Don't know Don't care what this means to those that use the PW but wanted to give an additional heads up. But even with the Newer eReaders coming out Amazon has not Stopped updating some of the older eReader people like so much |

I really hate agreeing with J S Wolfe but this time I just gotta. I have a Paperwhite 2 and I think it's an excellent device and $10 off makes it even better. But since the newer model, which has an improved screen, is only $10 more, That makes more sense. If someone is really eager to save $10 there's certainly nothing wrong with the Paperwhite 2, though. Clearly in US the price drop isn't as good as in France : PaperWhite 2 (Without Special Offers) 99€ PaperWhite 3 (With Special Offers) 129€ PaperWhite 3 (Without Special Offers) 139€ The PaperWhite 2 never had Special Offers here. |

I can think of one reason to prefer the PW2, but I'm afraid it isn't a very good reason. The PW2 *might* get shipped with a pre-5.6.x firmware, which can be jailbroken. I wouldn't bank on it, though. I doubt most people care about that... |

Another possible reason to prefer the PW2 is that the battery life is better, according to the 2nd and 3rd most helpful Amazon reviews: - review by JJCEO: "One downside is that the new Kindle Paperwhite does have a lower battery life when compared to the previous generation. The battery life has dropped from 8 weeks at ½ hour of reading per day to 6 weeks at ½ hour of reading per day. That is due to the additional energy required for the higher resolution screen and the power to render the higher resolution of text." - review by Desert Rat: "BATTERY: The battery of the 2013 and 2014 Paperwhites are rated a third larger than the new model. And it is noticeable! When operating simultaneously, the new PW battery drains much faster. It is currently rated at 6 weeks of ½ hour average daily usage versus 8 weeks for the older models. That specification translates to 21 hours of use versus 28 hours of use for the older models." |

I don't see why but at 2:30 p.m. the euro was .9146 to the dollar. Of course, it probably changed by now. Isn't 139 a 40% increase over 99? I never was much good at math, though.

I do think it's not worth it to buy a PW2 in the hopes of an older firmware. Because if it comes with a newer firmware, then you'd have to box it up, send it back, and then buy the PW3 to replace the PW2.

Some how I ended up with extra money this month! So I decided ...based on the Battery Life to order the PW2! I am not sure I going to get the full life of 28 hours since that was based on setting of 10... My settings seem to be 14 eschwartz Looks like I got one that can be jail broke Not that I would do that! |
