Yesterday was very difficult for me. Convincing Santa that I am sleeping, when, in fact, I am merely engaged in a physical rejuvenation period while practicing mental reorganization and free association techniques is getting harder and harder every year.

Santa's on to you. Next year he's probably gonna check under your eyelids to see if you're really sleeping. Maybe more milk and cookies will distract him.

I've got to stop you right there. Although Santa and I share traits like a big belly, a beard, a need to constantly laugh fer nothin' , some white pilosity, a taste for winter, we have a major different. He flys with raindeer, I eat them.

(Don't listen to him. It's still the real deal. He just had to use fewer reindeer this year. That's why Christmas toy deliveries were down 17% from last year.)

And about standing back from a cliff edge.. I had my mother almost hysterical once, when we were in Arches National Park. She was standing at the wall while my father and I went to the edge to look down... And you will not find me on a chair to get something from the top cupboard... I think I just need that contact with Mother Earth to make me feel safe

Speaking of jumping out of things: "Marco!" "Hugo!" "No, you say 'Polo' when I say 'Marco'." "Who's Polo? And why do you call me Marco?" "Because those are the rules of the game, Lefty!" "There's a game named Lefty?" "NO! I keep my eyes closed, antromopomorphically speaking, and call out "Marco", and you call out "Polo", and I try to locate you through echo-analysis and doppler-shift pattern recognition." "Oh, just like at the Smart Wool Training Camp and Hatchery. But who is Marco Polo?" "An Italian who explored China in search of noodles." "Is that why you have that Made in China tag now?" "No, that's to try to fool Mrs. Ye into giving me freebies at Ye Olde Asian Massage Parlor. Never mind that, you hide and we'll play. Ready? Marco!" "Hugo!" "I give up. Let's just take turns jumping out of the cupboards at Zelda and barking at the cats, like we usually do." "Polo!!" |
