My factory micro sd has a partition malfunction so I put the image on a new card and it works great unfortunately it doesn't seem it picked up the much larger storage space.

Kationen: One of the steps in Memory Upgrade Mod Guide is how to expand the data partition to use all of it. There are also some instruction somewhere to do this without removing the card, but I think that needs a factory reset afterwards to fully use it.

Dear davidfor,
I´m looking for a image of Kobo Glo, due to I have some trouble to connect to Windows. The storage is not visible. I want to try now a new image, but unfortunately I could not backup my SD Card before.
It´s a new Kobo Glo.
Do I need to enter my old serial number or anything else? Or is it possible to just copy the image file per USB onto the reader?

Howy75: I have sent a PM with the link, but have you done a factory reset? Most issues like this will be fixed by a factory reset. The image is needed when the device isn't working at all. And of course, a connection problem can frequently be the PC. Trying another cable, port or PC will help check this.

For the serial number, the image has it replaced by zeros. I don't think many people who restore from the images put their serial number in. If you want to, you can use a binary editor to do it. The serial number at offset 0x200.

Hello all!

I have a Kobo Glo, it froze and now it is not booting.
I tried both the soft and the hard reset but nothing worked.
I opened it and tried to restore the microSD with the recovery partition but it didn't worked.

Now I would need a new image for it.
Could you please help me?

And the recovery partition doesn't work like that. The device needs to boot from it and runs a script to do the restore from files on the partition.

thank you very much!

While trying to fix my Kobo Glo, after a soft reset (paperclip method), I tried two different factory reset:

1) with the proper button combination (light+switch button)

2) deleting all files in rootfs and "untarring" file fs.tgz from the recoveryfs partition to the rootfs partition.

Is the second solution wrong? Could you please point out the correct procedure?

This only works if the device is off. And the battery needs to be charged. The steps I give re:

- Charge the device for an hour or so.
- Hold the power slider in the off position for about 20 seconds. This is to ensure it is off.
- Hold the light button down and turn it on.
- Release the light button when the LED starts to flash.

If it doesn't work the first time, try it again with a little more time at each step.

It might work depending on what is actually wrong. But the factory reset the device does formats the root and data partitions, write the uboot and uImage files to appropriate places on the disk using dd and then unpacks the fs.tgz to the root partition. So, if the problem is that the root partition has somehow lost some files, what you did could work. But, it sounds like it didn't.

At this point, I suspect you are going to have to restore the image.
