I picked one of these up today to use with WiFi and I'm really happy with it, with a few caveats:

• This model doesn't have an SD slot, so you're limited to the 8GB on board, of which 5GB can be used by you for apps and data.
• Motorola won't let you unlock the bootloader of the Verizon phones and nobody has managed to root it without unlocking the bootloader. There are all kinds of websites saying it's super-easy to root the Moto G, but that's because you can unlock the bootloader of phones with other carriers.
• The battery's not removable. Not a big deal, but unusual in phones.

I was bummed about the no root because I feel naked without a firewall, but NoRoot Firewall showed up in Google Play since the last time I checked. I did a little testing and it seems to work.

It's got a 4.5" screen, front and back cameras, quad-core 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, GPS, compass and a relatively large (~2Ah) battery.

If you want to activate it as a phone, the minimun card is $45 for unlimited talk/text and 1GB data.

I used a cash back site (ebates) that offers $17.50 cash back, and it went through already, making this essentially a $3.89 phone. Some others are using Be Frugal and maybe other cashback sites, which offer $35 cash back, except in their terms it says you don't get the cash back if it's more than the cost of the phone. Yet some report that they've done this before on other phones and it worked.

Note that the cashback sites show you a button to clip the lesser-valued ($55 off) coupon code VOLT5CJ55. Instead of clipping that, I used the $60-off VOLTGOODSHOP60 coupon at checkout and ebates didn't care.

Virgin Mobile is a Sprint MVNO.

Confirmation e-mails show the full $80 price, but people are reporting that it's just an error in the e-mails. People that paid via PayPal went and verified that they were only charged the $20 + tax. If you're still concerned, you can print or save the final receipt as proof.

You can get a brand new Chromecast for only $8.97 from OwnZones, by signing up for one of their channels. I waited to post this until I had proof of it myself, and my Chromecast arrived this week. Brand new, sealed in the box. Here's how (info borrowed from a post by masupo at SlickDeals):

Just go to My Account > My Purchases and uncheck the "Subscribe" box. It took about a month total from when I signed up till the Chromecast arrived. I never received any notification about shipping, it just arrived.

I went ahead and signed up for a second channel today to get another Chromecast. I'm still debating if I'll do another two. (The first channel I signed up for is no longer listed on the offer, so I still have two more I can do at $8.97.)

This is a very good deal, and great if you've kind of wanted a Chromecast but didn't want to spend $30 for one!

Barnes and Noble has a trade-in promotion where you can get from $25 to $200 on your old device toward the purchase of a Samsung Galaxy Tab for Nook.

All Nook devices, including the original, are worth $50. I've got a classic Nook gathering dust and I'd be tempted to get the 7" Tab if I had any use at all for it.
