Nearly unusable M96 due to constant lockups
So I've had my M96 Universe since December 2014. I've been on both the firmware that came with the device, as well as the 2014-10-13 firmware. On both firmwares, I have a device that locks up entirely after about 20-30 minutes of use. When it locks up, I have to hold down the power button for at least 5 seconds, and then hold it down again to restart the device.
Suffice it to say that this is rather annoying, especially when it takes about 5 minutes post-reboot for the device to scan my ebooks and PDFs. ![]() I've tried lots of things to diagnose the problem, including installing catlog and having it record to a logfile every line. There's nothing of interest there, assuming that it's actually capturing the last log entry before the lockup. (This lockup only occurs when I'm on the battery, and not when I'm connected to a power source, so I can't just run logcat on my laptop to try and diagnose the issue.) Here are two logs from before the most recent crashes: Code:

It's becoming annoying enough that I'm about ready to return to my eyestrain-inducing Samsung device just so that I can get reading and work done. I can't deal with a device that isn't stable enough to use for more than 20-30 minutes. I really want to like my M96, I really do, but unless I can figure out a way to fix this I'm going to have to look into selling it. Thanks for any help anyone can provide. |

I had exactly the same problem.
Lockups occur less frequently (but still do) when no SD card is used and all ebooks are in internal memory. |

Hmm, thanks for the info. That's a shame, because I'd quickly run out of internal memory if I wanted to keep all of my ebooks on the device.
Does anyone have any suggestions about how to diagnose a problem like this? I'm quite proficient with the command-line and have rooted my device, so I can run any kind of monitoring process that someone could suggest. I'd like to help Onyx fix this issue, as otherwise I love the device. |

Hate to bump this, but I'm curious if I'm the only one who has this problem with my M96. I tried moving my books to the internal memory, but that didn't help much with the lockup issues. Do others have issues with the device locking up relatively frequently? As I posted earlier in this thread, I'm on the firmware that is supposedly more "stable", 2014-10-13. Again, I quite like the device when it's not locking up, but this problem is rather infuriating, especially given the cost of the device...

From what I observed, the device seldom hanged when charging. And I come up with a "Solution" that using cpu apps to alter the cpu performance as high as possible, this decrease the frequency of hanging. I guess when the device is charging, the cpu works in higher frequency. But when using the battery, the cpu frequency is low so it may hang easily when running apps. I think it is both hardware and firmware problem,I guess the only way is to wait for new update. |

After Seeing your log, I guess it is due to the screen sleep or wake mode. So I install an app called Stay Alive! Keep screen awake. Know what? The device seems never freeze again !!! ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Stay Alive! app helped in my case also.
I noticed that lockups occur more frequently in NeoReader, but i like because formatting in technical books is much better (listings etc.). |
