Check you "Button Icon Size" setting in the configure dialog. Perhaps Kovid added a "no icons" option?

I'm guessing you're using the binary installer on 64bit linux? Some of the image rendering plugins probably aren't loading. The binary installer build process was changed.

I see the same thing using calibre in 64-bit ubuntu. It was confusing me why the programme looked so different from the same version running on my 32-bit laptop. I didn't get any error messages when installing it, but when running from the termin I get this:

QPixmap::scaled: Pixmap is a null pixmap

I also seem to get a similar message when trying to convert ebooks using calibre (no cover image appears, I get a warning about null pixmaps) I've only tried converting Baen html ebooks though, so this may be a problem with them rather than calibre.
