Safe to install update to Kindle for PC?

The app wants to install version 1.11.2 "which contains critical security fixes to continue using the application." OK to install?

Yeah. It's the kindle devices that need to be watched for sneaky updates

I installed that version just yesterday and it went without a hitch. I didn't even notice anything different about it or how it functions.

How about how other popular things might function with IT?

What do you mean about sneaky updates to kindles? I have never heard of any problem.

I've got the latest update on saturday, and it's working as before. Bought a small amount of books (all free) and after downloading it, I was able to read it in calibre.

Anytime I see an update that's "required for continued use," I get a little nervous.

Not only is it safe to install the update. It might be that you will have no choice.

If past experience is anything to go by, the previous version will at some point simply stop working - possibly with no explanation, and with no indication of what to do about it. That has certainly happened in the past.

They break our jailbreaks, render our hacks out-of-date (constantly changing java obfuscation), modify the updater to disable our controls...

Just checked my copy of Kindle for PC and no update is showing as yet. Mine's still on 1.10.8 installed on 22nd March 2014. I have the "automatically install updates" box checked.

I accidentally clicked skip this update instead of the remind me later button over the weekend and now I have no option anymore to update in the app.

I guess it will just stop working at one point then? I vaguely remember something like that before.

IIRC, last time it warned many times before stopping working. The only problem arose with people who hadn't used it in a long time. If you run it regularly, there won't be a problem. You can always download and run the update manually if you wish to do so.

Manually? From within the app? I can't see anywhere to check for new updates or such thing now. You mean a brand new download? I would have to delete the program first for that?
I really don't want to mess up my system, I am not good in fixing things like that at all. I mean system in how I get my books to calibre that is.

I think he mean that you download the installer and run it again without removing the old install

I open up the directory Kindle for PC downloads my books to and drag the book into Calibre. What does everyone else have interact or function with Kindle for PC that I don't see any need for or bother with for myself?
