What I'm worried about now is that apps will be able to contact the internet and pass on the PDFs that I'm reading.

Or just use trustworthy apps. A reputable app like Goodreader isn't going to send your PDF anywhere.

You need a dropbox app. You run dropbox and then share the file, Adobe Reader will be a choice. You can then remove the one in dropbox if you wish.

My choice readers are the iPad mini 3 and Kindle Voyage. Depending on where I'm going/ what I'm working with determines what reader I bring with me. Both devices work flawlessly for reading. And they even synch the book so I can go back and forth.

Although it's certainly true that you can do so, it's difficult to understand why you'd want to when there are apps like GoodReader which are so much better for PDF.
