Look at it this way, apple always uses a semi-proprietary format and Calibre can translate from anything to anything. That's the only thing that I can add to the current discussion.

Hello, i was a very happy owner of a Kindle keyboard and now am heart broken as the screen died exactly 6 days ago It has been discontinued and Amazon proposes to replace it with a newer device. My biggest concern is that the new PW and Voyage have lighted screen. I really hate reading on my smartphone or tablet as i suffer from migranes, and that was one of the reasons i was crazy about my kindle keyboard, no back light . Some people say that they love the lighted screen, i am not so sure and as i live in Crete, i dont have the oportunity to check the devices myself. Any suggestions on the eye strain and the lighted screens? Thank in advance |

The frontlit screen is totally different to a backlit LCD screen. If you don't like the light, you don't have to use it.

Dear Harry, thank you. Does it turn completly down? If you turn it down is it the same (or close) as to how me kindle keyboard was?

Technically it doesn't turn totally off, but on its minimum level it's the faintest glimmer in a totally dark room. Even without the light, the screen is a lot better than the K3's screen, but I'm sure you'll like the light: almost everyone does.

I could not use a front-light in the dark. It makes my eyes go weird. It is useful in a dim light, though it does look rather like a tablet.

Don't forget, should you try it and find you cannot use it you can return it to Amazon, and there is an alternative, which Amazon just calls the Kindle. It has no front light, and it is currently on special. | |

When I first got my PW, the lighting took a little bit of time (like a day) to get use to. However, I love it now. The PWs screen looks bright and has better contrast. I compared it to my Kindle 4 (which I sold this morning) and I'm really amazed how much better the contrast is on the PW.

Thank you all for your help, i think from all the posts that i am leaning towards the paperwhite, one question though, how much storage space does the paperwhite actually have, because i was looking at it in the Amazon page and it only mentiones that it can store ober 1000 books...

4GB, with about 3.25GB free for your books.
