While we're discussing WINE and faffing about and such, has anyone managed to get NOOK for PC to run in WINE? NOOK Study runs for me, but NOOK for PC gives me an error on login. If anyone knows what configuration steps I need to take to get the login accepted, I'd appreciate some pointers.

I am so glad I finally found this thread! My B&N account was giving me fits after the middle of February. Back in the saddle now, thanks to you folks!

Hi Harry. Note that the question is on the key info that is avaialable as info from NookStudy (official BN software), not on any third party unofficial DRM-removal tools. So I would say this falls under "abstract". Thanks for moderating anyway.... I did consider your thought before I placed my question. I will refer to post #834 which refers to a separate comment on a separate webpage. At least that is friend of a friend of a friend (3rd degree of separation).

Thanks to a tip-off from Nate, I downloaded the new NOOK app for Android. From a few minutes of playing with it, it looks like B&N made some minor updates to the reader that came installed on the NOOK HD and released it for general Android use. So far, the two big things for me are:
Also, B&N is giving a $5 credit to new Android customers that sign into the Android app for the first time before the end of March. I assume that this includes prior customers that had never downloaded NOOK for Android, but I can't check since it doesn't apply to me in any way. |

Before I installed the new app I downloaded a book using the existing app. I've also been converted to the new drm like a bunch of other people here. I tried to read the downloaded book in Mantano and it asked for the user and password. I was able to open a book previously downloaded in Mantano so I know it's set up. Oh well, I wouldn't buy anything from them anymore anyway. The old app also downloads to my internal sdcard, so I guess them downloading to an area only accessible to root users is just another way they are trying to rid themselves of those pesky customers. |

Ah, just as I suspected. I saw there was a new Nook Android app, and I figured they would move where it stores the books: from a user accessible area to a user restricted area.
