No success yet - more problems

It could be called "boot-loader mode" too.

Now to get into download mode (two ways):
1) You can use the adb command which I posted

2) Follow these steps:

But, before installing boot.img, could you tell which update bricked your device ?
is it the official update from Icarus's website ?
I continued to work on the problem, but unfortunately have had no success thus far. This is what I did:

I backed up the various partitions with the Android ROM Dumper Tool v. 2.1. I attach a screen print of the output folder. The existing boot.img (old) has a size of 16 MB.

After renaming it, I copied your “Icarus_boot1.img” (which actually is identical with the boot.img of the latest official firmware update) into the output folder.

I then marked the boot partition for download (see screen print) and got a success message.

However, if I check by doing another “ExportImage” it turns out that the boot.img has not been changed in spite of the success message.

Using the old “ROM_Flash_Tool_137.exe” as recommended by Bob in his detailed instructions is no alternative for me, as the Icarus device is not recognized by the program.

Any ideas what else I could try?

Check installed apps in Settings. If you could not find Root Master, then copy "Root Master 1.3.6_Cekas FIX.apk" to your device and install it manually.

You have to install “Icarus_boot2.img”.
“Icarus_boot1.img” will not work in your device because it is a T61C.

I had to install Root Master manually. Now it works. Thanks a lot for help.

Oh stupd me !!!

Everything is back to normal - or almost.

As an aside: Customer support at Icarus woke up and sent me a rescue package consisting of RK Erase Tool v. 1.0 and RK Batch Tool v. 1.7 plus an enormous new img file without warning that all personal data would be lost. Thanks heaven I had backed it up before.

So now: Sacks full of "thank you" for your valuable help. I learned a lot and this has wetted my appetite to get a bit more familiar with Android.
Cheers

To find out if you have B or C you need to look into the build.prop file in /system/ (need root first).

Also about the best ROM I have been testing the Icarus and Boyue ROM's on my Wayteq and: for some reason the Icarus one had a lot of lag, the performance was really poor, on the other hand the Boyue one was quite good but the battery life was a bit terrible, I have now adapted my kernel for the Onyx ROM and am running that, it seems to be pretty good right now, the no refresh option is really useful, but can't say about the battery life yet unfortunately.

the rooting method worked flawlessly on my icarus illumina with the latest firmware. i only had to reboot the device once again after setting up my google account in order for google play to recognize the already installed apps. thanks a lot!

T61 - how to change default pdf application

Hi.
Is there a way to change the default PDF reader app?
On a normal android device one would press on a file and would be opted to select an application (just once or always). On this device?
I am currently using the stock boyue firmware (Jan 2015), and I have not rooted the device (but I will if I have to).
Any confirmed ways to do this?

What apps are you using to read e-books ? So far, the best I have found that works well on e-ink are: Alreader, Moon Reader and Cool Reader. Alreader is the best, and Moon Reader is good too.

Duokan is the best, since it offers the best text reflow for scanned images in pdf. I have several such books, and the result is superb with Duokan.

Is there a possibility to show the last open page during the sleepmode of T62, like realized there for the Nook ST?

Is there a way to replace just the default reading app from another device's firmware?
My attempt to replace the whole firmware failed...

Hi, I'm playing with the Energy Sistem Pro Reader, which is following the build.prop a Boyue T62b:
ro.boeye.order=Spain-Energysistem-T62B
ro.boeye.version=Energysistem-Ereader_V1.0.0-2015011610
Mine has a firmware from 2015:
ro.build.version.incremental=20150116.101649

It seems allready rooted, with TotalCommander I can access system files on the device.
What I can't do is access system files via ADB. ADB connects to device but with push or pull operation gives "Permission denied" message back. Neither USB-debugging nor Developer options are available.
Quote:
Tap the Build number field seven times to enable Developer Options. Tap a few times and you’ll see a countdown that reads “You are now 4 steps way from being a developer.”
doesn't work either. Any ideas?
I need this desperately to set default TTS options since the systemsettings are not offering it.

EDIT:
Solved my problem. Busybox was not installed properly.

Smile Thanks

Thank you for the guide ! The only problem is that with all these applications installed on my device, I didn't read a book already...

But for those using Linux I translated the bat file in bash files.
You need to have adb already installed (and configured according to the comment) on your computer, and then you can run these bash files in the same directory where is located the bat file.

Not a lot of work, but if it can help...
