Would you appreciate it if I said that your dissatisfaction with the infrared touch on the Kobo stems from unrealistic expectations? One mustn't be dismissive of genuine complaints. Your complaint about the touch on the H2O didn't stem from an unrealistic expectation because there does exist a competing device that did it better (the Voyage). Similarly, the complaints against the Voyage screen do not stem from unrealistic expectations because there does exist a competing device that executed the front lighting better (the H2O).

I traded the voyage in for a pw2 because of the screen and have not regretted it.

I love my Voyage, and once I can shake off my current bout of laziness, I'm going to put my PW2 up for sale.

I have been unable to find a place where you can actually buy a Kobo H2O ereader in the USA. we might find more defects with Kobo if someone actually sold the darn thing! The last cool ereader I was able to find in the USA was the AuraHD. I really did like Kobo and the reason I was interested was they took over my Sony Library. | |

Now I have a PW2 and my older PW1. I sold the first one with Wifi to a friend. I read with both of them. When I'm paying attention I can see a difference but they're both great for reading and I find I don't really care that much which one I'm using. I'm sure there were some defective Paperwhite 1's but my guess is there were also a lot of people who found barely perceptible imperfections under odd circumstances and returned them, horrified. I can turn the light all the way up on mine and if I look real close in just the right light I think I can see some kind of imperfection. I'm not very sure. I'm old and my eyes aren't that good. Probably someone younger could see them and would panic. At reasonable brightness the reading areas of the screens are perfect on both of them. Barry

Glad you got something your happy with. TBH I cant read on a frontlight in the dark, so the issue is moot for me. Though I can see it would be handy in dim lighting.

I was equally concerned by the comments about horrible color splotches on the PW1 screens. I bought one anyway, got another as a gift, and used my sister's Paperwhite. Amazingly, none had splotches. So, I have a Voyage now. It's fine. It hasn't killled the joy of reading for me. If I put my Paperwhite and the Voyage side by side the screens are different. The Voyage is a bit warmer. The Paperwhite light is colder. I can't say I like one better than they other. They both work fine for me. At this point, I do not see any advantages to the Voyage that would justify the higher price.

My experience is that some users have a need to whine that is not related to the devices about which they're whining.

I think you answered your own question and should go back to the PW. I have had a Voyage since launch and love it. I had a screen issue (more yellow at top) but it either went away or I don't notice it anymore. The Voyage is the best eReader I have ever owned and I love it. I've owned every version of the Kindle since the 2nd gen. |

I purchased 6 voyages and all of them had the screen issue where the top half looked different to the bottom. I couldn't accept this for a premium product and ended up buying a pw2 instead.
