Earlier models - like the Kindle 3 - were 10 minutes (I just checked my copy of the PDF manual), but I think the current ones are shorter. I haven't actually timed it, but I read in another post recently that the Voyage goes to sleep after 5 minutes. I checked the Voyage manual to see what the time was, but it is strangely not listed in the manual. |

			First thank for everyone.

The reason I want to disable it because I carry it in my backpack and carry it with me on subway and bus. The one i bought doesnt come with clip therefore I cannot lock the cover. so I am worried if I carry it with me in backpack everyday, because of bump/shaking, whether the cover will open/close frequently which hurts my kindle(on-off-on-off often in short time). if kindle can only turn on after say 10 seconds cover open, it would be convenient I'd say |

Smartie--You should really carry your Kindle where it will be more protected--or you do risk damaging the screen. That being said, have you thought about using a rubber band or something similar to hold the reader closed when it's in your backpack?

There would be other instances when it would be equally bad to have happen, I'm really surprised there is no standard feature in the software to adjust the delay for the auto-sleep. |

I found 10 minutes to sometimes not be enough time. I have my H2O set to 15 minutes and that's working OK. I might try setting it to 30 minutes.

No drain on the battery is the light isn't on. On my Kindle, the light is always on so I think letting it sit for sixty minutes would be a drain the battery.

The only time this is an issue for me is in the kitchen. I preparation to eating I'll set my Kindle down on it's stand with the case open and prepare my dinner. Sometimes I get involved with something and the Kindle goes to screen saver. So, I close the case, open the case, and read. For me that's easier than finding the hidden button on the bottom. Why they don't make the button a different color from the device is beyond me. |

And for myself, I would hate a different colored power switch that would stick out like a sore thumb. The Kobo Aura I believe has a red power switch and it's one of the reasons I don't like it. You can easily feel the button to use it. |

for all kinds of reasons IMHO.Also, note that the KUAL button is not nearly as useful as it could be, since there is no way of re-enabling the screensaver short of rebooting the device...

I actually don't like this too... as I bought some cheaper case from ebay, I often find, that kindle is turning on/off in the cover - probably week magnet or so

![]() But putting stronger one on the case just put it to sleep when I bend it over. Will have to pry tha cace open and remove it :/ |

It looks like I'll need to use a rubber band or glue a clip onto it. https://www2.mobileread.com/i/smiliesadd1/2thumbsup.gif Why I don't want a cover without a magnet? I like that the cover remains closed with the magnet. I just need to find one with a HINGE and not a "fold of cloth" so the cover won't shift when not in use (or shifting in my bag with my other books/files). |

I came here looking for the answer to the same question. Here's my reasoning:

I have set up the screensaver hack and I use personal info. I would like, if I lost it and someone found it, for them to be able to see my info so there's a chance of returning it! Plus, I like looking at the covers

As far as I know there is no way to turn off the auto sleep function for Kindles--unless there is a hack for jailbroken Kindles.
