Next up, #11 in the Campion series, Traitor's Purse. I'm about half way through (had to stop for the Ava Lee), and I'm enjoying it, but it's definitely not the action level of an Ava Lee book. |

I finally finished reading the oh-so-British Space Captain Smith, and have moved on to Stephen King's Revival. Hallelujah!

Next up: Mission to Minerva by James P. Hogan. Bought in a Baen bundle way back in April 2005. I fear I may abandon this one, but since I'm still only in the prologue, I'll give it a chance. |

Currently reading Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World by Haruki Murakami. Wonderland had been on my shelf for a year and a half and I decided to clear out a few TBRs. What a great read.

Just finished "The Hub: Dangerous Territory" by James H. Schmitz. I originally bought this from Baen in May 2001.
This is the fourth and final volume of the collected "Hub Federation" stories of Schmitz and, to my mid, far and away the best volume in the series. A truly excellent collection of short (and not-so-short) stories which I'd highly recommend. It can be read in isolation, although characters do appear in it who showed up in earlier books in the series. |

Currently reading Titus Groan and wondering why I didn't start it sooner. It's fabulous. Mervyn Peake is a cracking author and his illustrations are superb.
Also rereading Emma. I'd been meaning to do so for a while and I'm going to read the Alexander McCall Smith modernisation at some point following this. |

I finished Murder at Monticello by Rita Mae Brown, book 3 of a series that I am currently rereading. In its place -- because I alternate books in a series so that the stories don't run together in my head -- I'm reading Miss Marple: The Complete Short Stories by Agatha Christie. This is the book that I read while I'm eating lunch at work; I like something fun, light and fluffy that I can easily stop when I'm "ready" to go back to work.

Currently re-reading Stephen Ambrose's Undaunted Courage.
It's an historical account of the first expedition across the American West by Lewis and Clarke. It is (IMO) very well written and includes a lot of quotes from both Lewis' and Clarke's contemporary journals and background information about the time (early 19th Century). If you're a fan of consistent, correct spelling, the contemporary journals might drive you mad, but for me, they add character to the tale. As an example, just picked more or less at random from the book, from a description af a portage by Clarke; Quote:

Extremis (The Last Assassin) was ok, not my favorite of this series. I am getting a little bored with this series so may not continue. Hogfather was great, as usual from Sir Pratchett, and was an excellent Christmastime story. I have been on a Harry Potter kick recently and have been doing a complete series re-read, my first re-read of any of these books. I started Harry Potter and the Order of the Pheonix in December and finished on January 2 giving my yearly goal a good boost. Then finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince yesterday and started Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows today. Right now my spreadsheet is projecting that I will read over 73,000 pages this year because of how fast I am reading these. ![]() I am considering continuing the James Potter series when I am done since I am enjoying this re-read so much but I am not sure yet. I read the first JP book (James Potter and the Hall of Elders' Crossing) in 2011 and enjoyed it but never picked up the second one. |
