http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/4-great...ok-collection/ I haven't read it, so I can't say how useful it is, but they generally publish good articles. |

I have kept a record on Lotus 123, then Excel, since January 1992. The list just includes leisure reading, no business or college books. On the listing I include title, author, publisher, start & end reading dates, short summary of the book, if it has sequels, etc. Since starting to read ebooks in January 2001, on a Sharp Wizard, book size in KB of TXT was included and summed by year. TXT excludes any pictures, charts, etc. thus gives a good indication of the actual text length of a book. Lets you know if you’re reading more or less then in prior years. Now with the Sony PRS-500 the number pages in the preferred in “M” font are also listed and summed by year.

I like Goodreads myself. Its available anywhere there is an internet connection, and its easy to compare books with friends. Also important is the ability to mark books that I want to read as I come across them so I don't forget to read them later when I finish what I'm reading currently.

I would fail miserably were you to ask me to pen a list of all the books I have read, but in general, if you mention the author+title of a book I will know whether or not I have read it. I haven't bought or downloaded any "doubles" (by accident, I should add) - thus far.

I do occasionally enter stuff in AllConsuming but that is more for fun. I probably should work on a cataloging system before dementia strikes. What were we discussing? I haven't really looked at how the Sony reader keeps track of what page you are on in which book and where/when you have made bookmarks - it should be possible to distill this information and automatically keep track of what you read in XML/SGML or other suitable format suitable for (re)publishing elsewhere but I haven't been motivated enough to actually hack something together. I use a simple Excel file... though I have only kept track of book since I left on my deployment.... if i tried I could come up with a list of all the books I can remember reading but I doubt I will go to that extreme. I wanted to see how many books I could read during my 7 and a half month deployment

I've been using Shelfari. And I kinda like it. I haven't entered all of my books but I have most of the recent reads there...

I use goodreads, as well as a spreadsheet (but that has only the books I've read since last July, but I put more info on it than goodreads).

Yes, I use LibraryThing. I like if a book is part of a series, there's a tab that shows you which books in the series you have. You can also see what other books are in the series and which one you have.

Yes, I keep a spread sheet on excel, and also I am on goodreads. And also listsofbests.com has a running list of what I've read. All books, not just ebooks.

I usually remember what I have read, but it is good to have it listed somewhere. |

MARVELOUS Thread; I cannot guess how many times I have wished that I did keep a list...I wonder how many books would be on it had I started 50 years ago??

.In any case, the three online sites listed in this thread, with their look-up, etc., really look good! This will make the job ever so much more complete and easy. I will try it; just hope I can keep up the discipline!!! Gene |

Getting them all in is the hard part. Once you do just add a book as you read it. That's what I do. I don't put my "to reads" into the system. For me it is to keep track of what I have read, when, what authors and to get recommendations from the system, read review, etc.
