Kindle with buttons

My mom loves her kindle with page turn buttons. Suddenly half its screen has become blank. Resets have done nothing. What to do because Amazon doesn't sell a kindle with buttons.
Any ideas? Will another brand work such as nook? I have never used anything but a kindle. Mom is very tech averse. Has a hard time with touch screen

The new Voyage is pricy, but it has pseudo buttons (though they might not be as nice for somebody who really likes real buttons).

That said, I'd try holding the power button (slide it to the side and hold it, or press and hold depending which model it is) for about 30 seconds, or until the screen updates, whichever comes first. That forces a reboot, even if the software is hung.

Yeah, I love the buttons too. I am debating on getting a spare. I don't need the front-lit screen, I use an m-edge slide in light in my case. Why couldn't they have kept this reader as the low end reader?

Sounds like the screen may be broken at the substrate. Can you post a picture?

If exactly half the screen is blank, the screen controller (ie the electronics that control the screen) has failed.

We won't know for sure what it might be without a photo of the screen.

If it's just the page turn buttons she would miss, I'd suggest the Kindle Voyage. It has the equivalent of page turn buttons on the bezel - no need to touch the screen to turn pages.

Otherwise, I suggest getting a second-hand or refurbished Kindle that does have page turn buttons (& four-way controller buttons).

If you don't want to dish out the dollars for a Voyage, maybe you could find a deal on Ebay for a used or new Kindle with buttons.

Pawn shops, eBay or Craigslist (depending on whether you live in an area big enough to have pawnshops or Craigslist). I know one of my local Staples is supposed to still have one in stock -- I tend to doubt it, but it comes up as "available for pickup at the store."

I hear you about the page turn buttons! I loved them too! I am very happy with the Voyage and use the "buttons" almost exclusively. I set the page press to most sensitive and turned off the haptic feedback. I figured I know when the page turns because there are different words on it. ;-)

I really like the haptic sensors on the Voyage. Better than physical buttons, because you can rest your fingers on them without having to worry about accidentally turning the page. Whereas on my K3 I used to regularly turn the page inadvertently.

Guess it depends on where you are. When I checked a couple weeks ago my two local staples showed some in stock too.
Wish Amazon would just sell them though.

I'm so paranoid of breaking mine I'm almost afraid to use it.
Yes, I know the Voyage has 'buttons' but it is a lot more expensive!
