Any way to force the reader to paginate all ebooks at once?

I'm using Calibre to transfer many books to a new reader. I don't want to wait each time I'm starting a book till it's paginated, especially since that will run down the battery fast, while I'm away from power. What I'm looking for is some way to force the reader to paginate all books immediately after transfer. Is there such a way? I know I can move the books to the Sony library and from there transfer them to the reader. But that way I will lose all the tags and series information, and it's also a bit of bother. |

Thanks. Is there a reason to prefer lrf over epub for the Sony? Battery life? Page turning speed? Anything? |

I tried both and in my experience LRF books are rendered better than epub, and page turns are faster.

I've been thinking. Is there a way to load the ebooks to the Sony Library, and save them all back to disk paginated? Without going through the reader or losing Calibre metadata.

I don't know if there is any Calibre-specific metadata that would be overwritten by the Sony software, but I suspect that there might be some. I would create a new library folder, do the pagination bit in Sony, and then re-import back into Calibre. You might lose tags, but if you don't use them that would be cleaner. Also, I have switched to EPUB from LRF for all new books because the pagination and the rendering is so much faster, not to mention that changing font sizes is much quicker with EPUB. |

Pagination information is not stored in book files, so there's no way you can paginate in the sony software and then use calibre. As for epub, it uses a different font for rendering, does not do full justification and has much quicker initial load times (the filp side is that clicking on links can be slower sometimes). Whether you like it or no is a personal preference. |

I converted a LIT (Microsoft format) book to both LRF and EPUB, and I preferred the LRF format - it seemed to be closer to the original - font sizes, margins, white space between sections etc. I've yet to try converting from other formats to EPUB. However, EPUB is certainly the format for the future (because it is an open standard) and so I will be supporting it as much as possible (buying EPUB books). |

I tried using Calibre to make ePub versions of two books. Both crashed the Reader and caused it to reboot. I can't code XML (at the time, and don't expect to have time to learn for at least the next 9 months). And I've never been able to decipher the command line stuff in Calibre. So for me, ePubs are in the category of "wait until the bugs are worked out". This is not meant to be a complaint against Calibre, not at all. It's just an acknowledgment that certain aspects of this tool are currently outside of my skill set! And I would expect the original poster would have to look at his own skill set to decide whether ePub is really a better choice for him (yet) or not! |

Unfortunately, Adobe DE, has a ton of bugs that cause it to crash with various EPUBs, we just have to wait and hope that they get their act together. I often find for example that when an EPUB crashes the reader I can circumvent it by navigating directly to a page inside the book using page numbers
