How to know if Kindle Paperwhite is special offer or not?
I bought a kindle PW2 4gb.It is running 5.4.3 firmware.I bought the special offer edition.I am not seeing an ad or special offer.I have only connected it to the wifi once for a few second to register it.I have kept it in airplane mode.

Did I get the one without ads?Am I that lucky?

If you registered it while not in the US (or to a non-US account), many times Amazon will forego the special offers. This seems to be applicable only to PW's.

Anyway I asked Amazon CS if my kindle is special offers or not and they said it is not.

I got a PW2 ad free for $99!!

You can see for yourself (though you already asked Amazon) by going to Manage My Content and Devices and clicking on the Your Devices tab. The device SO status is shown there, directly under your device email address.

I recently got two SO PW2 -2014 models and the SOs wouldn't come off the normal way. When I called Amazon for help they did it for free. Double-checked my statement and no charge.

Is that the same for the Fires, only I think mines special offers as I get adds on the home screen but I can't see anything in settings or on the Manage My Devices page, there is nothing under my device email address.

Sorry. I don't own a Fire and so cannot help. You might ask in the Fire forum if someone doesn't have the answer here.

ETA - the info I posted is for the US. Amazon UK might be different.
