Apple Announces Special Event: 'It's Been Way Too Long'. Here's What To Expect.

The clamour surrounding the iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and Apple Watch may only just be cooling down, but today Apple has announced another major event where we are expected to see the company refresh the rest of its portfolio.

Under the somewhat ironic tagline ‘It’s been way too long.’ Apple has invited journalists to its Cupertino campus on October 16th “for a special event.”

Like all Apple launches, the company doesn’t give away any details beforehand (unless you want to read into the rainbow outline of the Apple logo on the invite). That said the usual flurry of leaks has again hit in recent weeks so we are starting to get a good idea of what to expect.

That's really the only thing I'm hoping for - a 128GB iPod touch. They just quietly retired the Classic, so maybe it's time for a high capacity touch.

I'm hoping for something new and interesting in the iMac line. My 4-year old iMac developed a hardware fault yesterday that is causing it to not boot (not the hard drive), so I'm taking it to the Apple store tomorrow to find the cause. If it isn't the graphics card (which has been recalled) and isn't cost effective to fix, I'll be in the market for a replacement.

I'm fine with my iPad 3 still, but I'd love a new iPod.

I had the orange iMac and the green iBook. Sure wish computers came in colors again.

The problem is, no one is talking about new iPods.

I'm not an Apple guy, but I have family who are. So I track the mobile line for gifts. I was hoping for a new touch. It's been two years since the last one. It's overdue. Like Kaitou mentioned, no more Classic so maybe a 128GB touch is in order.

I think no one talks about it because the iPod has basically been written off. No one figured on an update, since it has been so long.

Seems like the sites concentrate on the 'big' money items like the iPads and iPhones. Even the computers don't seem to get as much attention.

Surely the iPod will be updated, Yosemite should be released, and new iPads maybe? They bought the Beats line this year, so it would be logical to update the iPods.

I can't wait to see what happens.

The current iPod touch is really dated. An A5 processor with only 512MB RAM. It needs to be bumped up to at least the A7 w/ M7 co and 1GB RAM. Give it the same display as the iPh 6 and price it as follows: 16GB=$199 / 64GB=$299 / 128GB= $399.

I'm eying the new Macs as my MacBook Pro is on its last legs. The new iPads have to have a huge bump before I upgrade from my 1st gen mini.

What about the resolution? The mini 1 is only 163 ppi. Don't you want retina?

Running my old faithful iPad2 and iOS8 is an exercise in "make a cuppa while the app loads"...

I'm wondering how well the Shuffle has sold. I could see it being deleted.
I wasn't thrilled when the Nano changed. I love my 6G Nano. I still wear it on a watch band from time to time.

It's great for the gym.

At 2GB and no expansion slot, the Shuffle is a joke.

The 6G Nano was sized right for an MP3 player.

You were brave. I still haven't updated my iPad 3 to iOS8. I'm afraid it would slow it down also.

Just do not upgrade! I might have been brave, but in hindsight it was stupidity really.
