Question Calibre 2.1 multiple crashes and no Amazon conversion

I am running OSX Mavericks 10.9.4.

Having upgraded this morning, Calibre is crashing frequently—not at start up, but after a few operations. Haven't noticed a real pattern except I have been accessing preferences a lot, which brings me to the second problem.

Conversion of AZW files from Amazon Kindle books now gives DRM protection messages. I have installed the latest version of Alf's Tools, but this has had no effect.

The next step, I guess, is to try a complete reinstallation, but I'm not sure how I can do this without jeopardising the existing library and, particular, all the meta data that I have added.

Please can someone advise best process.

Regards,

Roger

Since the problem you are having is with DRM and the plugin for removing the DRM, I suggest you go find Alf's blog and ask there. It's against the rules at MR to help with the plugin tools and removing the DRM. Sorry, can't help.

As for your crashes, the only think I know of that can cause calibre to crash randomly on OS X is if you have some accessibility technology turned on, like VoiceOver or shortcut for zoom or whatever. On some OS X machines accessibility technology causes Qt to blow up.
