Is new PW imminent?

I live in Canada. Usually I saw people sell used PW1 at around 100,but recently noticed the price dropped to 50-60, just wondering it is because new PW is coming very soon?

For the four-hundredth time, no one knows if a new PW is coming out until Amazon announces it. Amazon never tells ahead of the official announcement.

That said, Amazon released its new e-reader last year on September 3 and speculation is that the new Kindle "Ice Wine" device will probably come out in the next few weeks.

At this point, no-one not under NDA knows anything about the next Kindle - features, pricing, release date are all unknown. It's not even certain that they'll launch a new Kindle this year. Although I would be very surprised if they didn't launch one.

I'd wager they won't release an update, or if they do, it will include no major enhancement. Recently Amazon began releasing the existing model with extra memory. Why would they bother if they're about to release a new model? There have been no leaks or substantiated rumors. No hints in the FCC. By now we would have heard something. Basically, Amazon doesn't have anything new to add to the Kindle. I suppose they could water-proof it... I suppose they could release a different-sized Kindle. Except they won't. One size fits all. |

I'm not willing to bet against you but it would be unprecedented for Amazon not to release a new Kindle model with some new features. Last year's PW2 release was pretty low-key but did reinforce this expectation. It was also the first time I didn't buy the new model. I'm still pretty happy with my PW1, but am doing more reading on my Fire HD and smartphone (about a third on each) because they support TTS/audiobooks. If and when they add popup footnotes to the apps I would use PW1 even less. So I'm not sure what it would take for me to buy a new PW or whatever it will be called. A Liquavista screen maybe? I don't see buying another Fire tablet either. I just don't like the Appstore.

My guess is Amazon will be releasing a new Kindle this year. If the only upgrade this year was the memory, Amazon would be making it a bigger deal. Instead they silently started increasing the memory on the pw2s. I'm thinking that for what ever reason 4gb chips became more economically feasible than 2gb chips.

Maybe they're planning a color screen release. Next year seems a long time to release. Maybe it'll be before autumn 2015. Color does seem to be the only next big thing, but then I didn't see the front-light coming.

I would not be surprised if they release a new one. But I would also not be surprised if they sit still with the current model.

I heard Kobo announced a new waterproof ereader so I can only assume Amazon would want to keep up. A waterproof Kindle Paperwhite would be a day 1 purchase for me.

If that were all a new PW3 offered, I'd be staying with my PW2.)

I expect a color eink kindle to come out this year. It has been over year since Amazon purchased Liquavista so I expect them to come out with a color eink device.

I don't expect to see a colour Liquavista-based Kindle before next year now. I feel sure there would have been leaks (of information!) if they were ramping up a production line.

A 7"-8" color screen is not bad idea for me.

I've been holding off replacing my K3 for months, waiting on the new 2014 PW. If I give up and get the current version, you can bet the new one will be announced the following week. So when I post that I've finally given up and bought the current version, you should be able to rest easy knowing the 2014 version will be out within days. |
