Well, a little bird (not a chicken, though) told me that you only risk losing subscriptions .... Then again, you may not have to transfer the Kindle account, if it and the audible UK acct have the same login credentials... The same bird told me that content purchased in the UK seems to work for US whispersync offers... |

If you want or need a professional narration of these classics at the cheapest possible price, this deal by Downpour would be hard to beat. Just a cautionary note, however . . . . the translation of each are older ones. It's my experience that most of the time the older translations (as well as other writers, and speakers) generally are harder to follow than the more recent translations. Call me an uncultured bumpkin, but it hard enough for modern renditions of the Iliad and Odyssey to hold my attention. Too, I suggest that you take advantage of the "listen" feature on the webpage for the two books. I took a listen and found that I, personally, do not care for the narrator (Anthony Heald); of course YMMV. Last edited by GtrsRGr8; 08-21-2014 at 01:29 AM. |

Wouldn't you think that in around a year of Audible daily deals, I'd have been able to find one or two appealing titles that I don't already own? How do they manage to find so many books in which I have zero interest?

I have to agree - although I have purchased 3 of the Audible Daily Deals in the last 12 months. 1 was a Star Wars, 1 was a Dr. Who, and the 3rd was a non-fiction book that "I should read" and have been agonizingly listening to bit by bit every time the guilt of having bought and not listened overwhelms me <which is not too often as I strenuously try to minimize falling into even my own guilt trips whenever I can avoid them>. There have been maybe 2 others -which I cannot recall now- that tempted me a little but not quite enough. I have bought other Audible books to be sure, but not getting a lot of play on the Daily Deals myself. Still, I do check them rather compulsively. Much the same experience of playing Lotto, a lot of hope and not much luck. Last edited by Piepan; 08-19-2014 at 09:50 PM. Reason: fixed spelling mistake. |

I don't have a problem finding audiobooks to buy at Audible even though I avoid those I can get at my public library (which has over 10,000 mp3 audiobooks). I bought today's daily deal, that's my 3rd this month. I usually buy 3 or 4 Audible daily deals a month plus the occasional Whispersync for Voice match to go with ebook daily deals or sales. It helps that I'm buying for both myself and my husband; we like different genres so that doubles the probability of hitting the daily deal lotto.

I'm buying at a considerably faster pace than we are listening, but for a few bucks a pop it's worth it to have access to a large library of listening choices. Plus most of the $ I spend on these daily deals comes from promotions and not out of my pocket. Last edited by Synamon; 08-19-2014 at 11:13 PM. |

I too compulsively check the Audible deal every day, and every day I'm disappointed. I don't care for science fiction, and it seems like that's the genre they try to foist on me most often. I considered Breakfast at Tiffany's the other day, but then I forgot and missed the deal.

Well I blame Amazon for not supporting older devices but we all know they do that even with the Kindles. I love my little players I use them with Slacker or just good ole FM radio. Raleigh has a really awesome Classical station that I love. I also use it for Audiobooks I bought an audio book app called Smart AudioBook Player for MP3 books I really like which allows bookmarking, recapping and all the features I wish my Sansa Clip had.

Question -- can you connect the phone to a computer and put audio files on it that will play from a music app or something? I've been working on putting free audio books and old radio shows on MP3 players for old people (I'm old; everybody I know is old) to use when bed-bound, but they're having trouble with the clunky menu system. I had planned to use Sansa Clip Sport, which works great except that a lot of old people can't navigate it easily, and it turns out Rockbox won't work on this exact MP3 player. This would be cheaper and easier all around, if I cold get librivox books and archive.org old time radio mp3 files on it. Any suggestions for this project would be appreciated, thanks. lee |

Look, everybody - an actual free audiobook in the audiobook deals group! (Sorry, we've had a lot of sidebar discussions lately including myself - felt like a kid with no presents under the tree every time I saw a new post.

) Over at Noisetrade you can get Charles Martin's "Unwritten" for free. Charles had another freebie there last year ("Thunder & Rain") and I think it was only around for a couple of weeks. If you are interested go here and get it while the gettin' is good.Quote:
