I am thinking to buy the Surface Pro 3. I am considering the 256G I5 or 256 I7. I would like the 512 I7 of course but not willing to pay the price. Do you think the I7 worth it for those who have both. I know no one has an I7 Surface Pro 3 yet. I have an I7 desktop and an I5 laptop and am okay with either. Just wondering. I am not near any stores so I cannot see one in person. Won't be within 1000 miles of one till October probably, so must order online. Any insight advice appreciated. Helen |

Is it worth the $250 difference?

I don't personally think the i7 is worth the premium. You're probably not going to be running computationally-intensive tasks on a Surface.

@JSWolf, Kumabjorn, HarryT Thanks. I am thinking the I5 is good enough, but then $250 is only about 20% more, and then I think I want the 512 storage, agghhh. Pretty sure I will be doing as you say though. I've only actually been looking at it for a day, so I will probably not order till Monday. Any other advice appreciated. Helen |

First of all: Surface Pro 2 or 3? I already had a Surface Pro 2 and I love it. I don't need the Pro 3, but being a collector I kind of did... i7 was a simple choice for me: If I go for a gadget in the range of € 1.000, I'd always go for the newest technology. I may not need it now, but I'll probably regret any other choice in a year or so. But I've decided against the 512GB version and opted for 256GB. My Surface Pro 2 has 256GB as well and I've got plenty of storage left. I don't want to install too many apps/programs and I always can safe my media to the SD card. Shipment is scheduled for August 28th, so I should be able to share my impressions in about 6 weeks...

I usually go for the best processer and would not be happy with 4 Gig Ram, but I am okay with my 3 year old I5 laptop. So I5 is good enough. I am probably waiting till Monday and if stock still available on I7 will probably order. If stock not okay I will probably pre order I7. Mostly I use external drives for storage/backup so 256G should be enough. I often look at your messages and think 44 tablets Probably you have more than that by now You should line them all up and post a picture. Maybe Guinness material. Thanks for the input. I appreciate it. Helen

What's a good make of USB 3.0 hub that works with the Surface Pro 2 for handling external hard drives, memory sticks, and a mouse all at the same time?

If you're using external hard drives, one important point is that you'll need a powered hub. Unpowered ones are fine for mice and USB sticks, but not for external hard drives. I've always used Belkin hubs, which work well.

I do know I'll need a powered hub. But with so many out there and so many differing reviews, it's sometimes not easy to find a good one. Thanks.

Anker has a good one, it also has a port for just charging. If you want to charge your phone (or Reader) and not have it connect to your Surface.
