The title speaks for itself. I am trying to see if free time works on the basic kindle.

Kindle Free Time is an app that runs on Kindle Fire's (not sure about the early models). It's not something for eInk Kindles at all.

I was hoping that the basic kindle has it because I would like to get my gils each one. I want them to read more. This would give them more options for inexpensive reading material.

I know the kindle keyboard at least has parental controls, and I'd be willing to bet that the basic kindle does as well.

FreeTime is parental controls on steroids. It does much more than the previously existing parental controls.

Also, (for e-inks) only the Paperwhite has FreeTime. Both PW1 and PW2 I believe.
