I got my hands on a unit...... 700 vs. 505 505 picture is much crisper and sharp. 700 is fuzzy. A difference you would only notice if you have used the 505 regularly. Something you could get used to......but definetly a major difference. I personally would not pay an extra $100 for this unit....regardless of touch screen and light. |

There are major glare issues with the 700. It is due to the texture of the screen. It is a glare similiar to an etch a sketch......plastic screen maybe. I guess the 505 is glass....that is why the 505 is so much clearer with almost no glare. In the dark the ACL1 cover has a consistent stream of light throught the reading area. The 700 light is not consistent around the reading area. There are 4 "bulb shadows".....similiar to the 2 bulb shadows when using a Lightwedge. I ebayed one of the units I got if anyone is interested. I guess I should be hyping the 700 unit since it is on ebay........ |

 I sure hope it's not a quality control issue! | |

if the photos are on your hard drive, to attach them to your post, just click "new reply" (or "go advanced" from the quick reply box), then click on the little paperclick button ("attachments"). click on the first button and navigate to the first photo. repeat for the other photos. then click "upload". just post another message if you get stuck.

I got an email saying my delivery date has changed to 11/18 too. Sucks. I'm a very impatient person. I used to have a kindle that I used pretty heavily, though their wireless option was not something I used a lot. I gave it away to my brother last month, and have since been reading books on my iPod Touch. It's convenient enough, for now, but I don't enjoy reading on such a small screen size. I'm looking forward to my first Sony Reader. I have a feeling a little bit of screen fuzziness isn't really going to negate the advantages of touch screen capabilities for me. I wonder if you could have crossword and sudoku type games on it now. That would make it a whole lot more fun for me. |

Mine has been shipped and I ordered in around 10-13. While it may not be as clear as might like, it looks perfectly readable. About how it is if you have a lighted cover for the 505. Its still worth it to me because I like ebooks but pressing a button to read has been inflaming my tendons. I expect a touchscreen will be a lot better for me. There are also other features I am looking forward too. |

Heh, I actually have two 700s on order (one from Sony, one from ABT) and neither has shipped. I've decided to chill and see how it looks in my hands. On paper at least, it looks great and the speed and touch-screen (I am too used to the iPod) are too enticing to pass up. Plus it's nicely designed. If it looks too dim or is not good enough for extended reading, I'll just send them back. |

A few more observations..... I just fell in love with the 700 The 700 is much crisper at night than the 505 w/ACL1. The ACL1 has a haze or frosting on the glass. The 700 is much sharper at night. I prefer the 505 during the daytime and the 700 at night. The 700 light seemed less stressful than the ACL1 cover.....almost soothing. The 700 reminds me of that Seinfeld episode where the girlfriend looked different in different lighting. 700 is great at night and avergage during the daytime. The touch screen works excellent with absolutly no problems with finger prints. The little black flash is still visible when turning a page |
