The Martian by Andy Weir. This is SciFi like the movie Gravity was and an excellent read.

A number of us have added favourites to a MR listopia on Goodreads, but it would also depend greatly on what type of scifi that you like. Space Opera? Dystopia? Time travel?

I'd heartly recommend just about anything written by either Iain M. Banks or Alastair Reynolds. Both are fantastic and excel at space opera. Peter F. Hamilton is also worth a look if you like more pulpy sci-fi.

To many to name. John Ringo and David Weber's Empire of Man Series, Armor by John Steakley, Honor Harrington Series by David Weber, The Ring of Fire Series by Eric Flint and Dune by Frank Herbert are just a drop in the bucket. Apache |

Andre Norton. Lots of great sci-fi and fantasy. Her Witch World series is a bit of both. She wrote a very interesting series about time traveling (Time Traders). Here's the first book free and DRM-free from Baen: http://www.baenebooks.com/p-429-time-traders.aspx and the second book free from Gutenberg: http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/19651 There's also a whole bunch of other excellent free sci-fi of hers from Gutenberg. http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/author/7021 She also wrote a series about humanity dealing with a galactic empire by becoming mercenaries. Here's the first 2 books free and DRM-free from Baen: http://www.baenebooks.com/p-396-star-soldiers.aspx Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card is also a great novel. It's supposedly a 'kids' book but it's not really. The writing is straightforward, but there's a lot there for adults as well. Last edited by Rbneader; 05-29-2014 at 02:58 PM. |

It's a two-parter, with Fall of Hyperion. There's also a two part follow-up, Endymion and Rise of Endymion, which is also good, but not quite as good. |
